I mean there is a Batgirl, part Asian Green Arrow (Connor Hawke) and plenty of gay characters.

A more valid analogy would be if they made a movie called The Dark Knight and had it starring Batgirl. The women aren't playing the original Ghostbusters. They're playing other characters in the same line of work.
Exactly.

Batgirl is consistent with the source material.

Largely stunt casting.

Which is part of the problem. When a character who just happens to be gay, and it is treated as part of the human condition, I'm fine with it. When it is inorganically wedged (or retconned) into a story just to push the narrative - I'm going to bristle at that. I'm not saying "never" accept it, but it is going to have the burden of making a great story (and the PC bullshite isn't just that - PC bullshite), rather than my generally justified skepticism holding sway.
As it is with this. Having a Ghostbusters "reboot" or a "younger generation" would be a bitter enough pill to swallow. I understand Hollywood - they want something safe. So, they go back to the well - over and over and over again. So, if they rebooted this new crew to have a female - I would probably take it in stride, although I still wouldn't be looking forward to it.
But, an all girl GB team? Nothing could be more transparent.

Maybe they found a way to use her that works? Maybe not? I don't know.
Have you watched the trailer?

I still don't get why you care about the female casting so much.
If you don't think Ghostbusters should be remade/rebooted at all, I can get that. But for me that doesn't have anything to do with the cast being all-female.
This will become source material. As Batgirl did when she was introduced (I'm guessing about 20 years after Batman was?)

It's stupid, transparent, PC bullshite stunt casting.

BUT, if they're going to do it, do it right.

This bomb will kill the franchise - for at least 10 to 15 years, IMHO.

22. No one takes Batgirl seriously. No one will take the girl Ghostbusters seriously.

I get it and I chuckled when I posted it. That's how bad this is/will be. Ghostbusters was a relatively new thing - a big budget, special effects "comedy." Murray, Aykroyd and Reitman worked together before, but this was the first time they had the resources to make a big movie. Also one of the first (if not THE first) comedy films to take full advantage of the newish "Star Wars" market strategy of synergy of film, toys, videogames, spinoff children's programming, traditional merchandise (other than toys, i.e., lunchboxes, apparel, the whole smash), and was wildly successful financially, as well as well-received critically.
Certainly no live action comedy targeted at this broad of a market in this way.
It is still a comedy at the end of the day. And no one will take this new film as anything other than a crass, hamfisted effort to cash in on the legacy of the original film.
ETA: And is doing so with it's stupid, transparent, PC bullshite stunt casting.

Its just fricking lazy
But I guess you are looking forward to seeing the life and times of Martin Luther King, Jr . . . .
starring Tom Hanks. Amirite?

Yeah, because that's the same thing.

Though this wasn't addressed to me, let me point something out.
LINK -- This is the kind of nonsense that bothers me so much.
The movie is likely going to be a dud. That it is now politicized because of the actors' gender is really obnoxious.

I have to say the hate for the new Ghost Busters is pretty ridiculous. Someone say it say it's terrible and expect everything to say the same.
I seen it and I thought it was fine, it's an updated CGI fest of Ghostbuster.
Now do I wish they have tied it into the Original Ghostbusters? Absolutely. But barring that, the trailer is what it is...

not really. if man of steel had a terrible trailer (as opposed to one of the best ever) it would have been DOA, too. even then, the movie wasn't exactly beloved and pissed off the Superman fanboys
or we can take a property like GOTG. everyone was unsure about it until that first trailer dropped. then fanboys were allll bout this little property that nobody really had an investment in
or, for another example, people shite ALL over the lone ranger reboot b/c the trailers made it look utterly stupid

it's time like these i have a reputation for hating so many movies
ain't nobody gonna call me an x-ist for not liking this almost assured shite fest

I finally watched a preview for this today at the theater, it was before the TMNT movie. It looks like it could be decent actually. I really don't see the need to label it as shitty just yet. It certainly looks as funny as the original, if comedy is what it's going for.

Batgirl is awesome. Barbara's entire arc from copycat to sidekick to getting shot to Oracle to Birds of Prey is fantastic and would make a hell of a movie.

So they start the movie acknowledging the first took place 30 years ago.....then proceeded to re-enact some of the same scenes?
I just watched the trailer, and thought the same thing. This is a reboot, not a sequel. There just aren't that many reboots that are better than the original. It seems like this film almost armed itself from that tendency by using the cast that they did. Now they are freely using those arms as the film has been met with preemptive disappointment.
The cast WAS ghostbusters. Anything that would have been created without those guys starring in more than cameos would have created backlash. I actually thought I heard Jonah hill and the apatow clan were starring, and I had already written it off, like up until a few months ago I was under that impression. Nothing has changed now that I know the actual cast. We are also at a stage where we have seen enough reboots that we know what to expect from them.
People will watch any piece of shite Bill Murray is in. He has built a rep for himself both on and off the screen that has him at legendary status. It's not that Kristen Weig (sp?) isn't a man, it's that she isn't Bill Murray.
And fwiw, I find her strangely attractive and usually like her, but this movie won't be good.

But why do you care so much? You're making as big a deal about it as some of the people that you're criticizing.
He is writing on a movie board based on an lsu website, that is hardly making a big deal. And I think it bothers him that the media is telling him why he thinks what he thinks, while he truly does have substance to his opinion, and is using this board as a vehicle to express that opinion.
