Two trailers are enough for me to pass judgement.

Or at least make the easy decision to wait until it's on HBO Go or Netflix.

FWIW, I talked to a woman yesterday (OT 6) who claimed to love Ghostbusters but had no idea this new movie was coming out until that Kobe Bryant/Ghostbusters Comercial during the NBA finals last night.

When I told her the cast was all female she said, "what the frick? That sounds terrible."

I think I love this woman.

It has a chance to be OK as long as Leslie Jones has very little screen time. She is so terrible and that is not up for debate.

I don't WANT to hate this movie, but the trailers that I've seen have been steaming piles of crap.

For me, I'll be happy to admit that while I don't watch it often, Ghostbusters hit at the perfect age for me as a teen, so it holds a pretty solid place in the nostalgia of my youth. So...any remake was going to be met with angst on my part...because, let's face it, most remakes tend to suck. That's not my fault, it's just the way it's worked out.

This got worse when it became apparent that the were stunt casting. They could have used ANY group and I'd have been worrisome by that. I'm upset by the act of purposefully casting all women as a GIMMICK not that there are women wearing the uniforms. This would have been the same had they decided to cast all handicapped actors, or all Asians, or all dwarfs, etc. It's not that they looked back and said, "You know...if we remake Ghostbusters it might be nice if we added some women." They crudely said, "Hey...let's take the exact formula for the original Ghostbusters, and just make them all women!!!" Sorry...no.

And even THEN, I could have been won over had the trailers not been both horrible AND laced with exactly the type of jokes you'd expect from a movie that had stunt casted it in this way.

McCarthy's schtick is playing an over the top white trash woman. She's not in that realm here.

Wig Isnt that funny, more of a straight man. Don't know who the other white girl is.

Saw the black girl in some geico commercial last night, that beast was hideous. And I've heard she's not that funny on SNL.

Will probably get rave reviews but tank at the box office.

The hard truth. It wasn't funny enough for a comedy nor serious enough for horror/drama and too slow for an action movie.

They spent $154 million making this movie. Think of all the places in which that money could have been put to better use.

Also, quote by the writer:

quote:

Angry fanboys will likely dismiss Akyroyd's opinion by pointing out that he has a vested interest in Feig's reboot (Akyroyd is, after all, receiving an Executive Producer credit on the film), but even if that weren't the case they'd probably say "Well, he's just trying to be nice". These are perfectly valid points. The trouble, of course, is that many of the people making said points will be the same assholes who just spent six months finding a million other reasons to pre-hate Paul Feig's Ghostbusters, and almost no one's taking anything those clowns say seriously anymore. Whoops.

Just some shitty movie blogger that has a bias.

A lifelong film enthusiast, Scott Wampler is a man of constant sorrow and online film blogger from Austin, TX. Raised by wolves until he was in his mid-40's, he was later reunited with his father, Christopher Lloyd, and frequently confuses real life with the 1987 Howie Mandel vehicle "Walk Like a Man".

Cringe.

Why would she (and you apparently) just assume this movie with an all-female cast would be terrible?

Because women aren't as funny as men.

So they start the movie acknowledging the first took place 30 years ago.....then proceeded to re-enact some of the same scenes? Yep...great idea. Plus Ecto-1 was an old ambulance...not a freaking graveyard taxi

That's not what people are saying...Bridesmaids had an all female cast, and was funny as shite.

The issue is they took a property that had essentially a cult following and did the most obvious stunt casting imaginable and just replaced the all male cast with all women. It was a gimmick...is that not clear? There was nothing organic about this decision. It was a ploy, and now that there's been fans upset by it, it's a dare. Aside from being silly, it's fricking lazy writing.

There are any number of ways a Ghostbusters sequel could have included women...but taking the old movie and just chopping the cocks off the guys and calling it a day isn;t really one of them, and pointing that out does not make one a misogynist.

Well, because stunt casting is just that - a "stunt" to drive up (artificially) demand for something.

Let me put it this way, I would also assume a remake of Steel Magnolias with an all-male cast would be terrible.
