The worst, most annoying take of all of these is acting like Emma Stone's character isn't hot. She's incredibly attractive, intelligent, and has a great personality.

Thank you! I thought I was taking crazy peels reading those takes. She was a girl who when you add it all up it’s incredibly desirable. These dudes in here acting like she is Gyllenhal in the Dark Knight are insane.

I've definitely heard of this movie but haven't ever seen it, but this thread piqued my interest. I've intentionally avoided reading every reply and only very casually skimmed so as to avoid spoilers.
I started last night and got about halfway through and will finish the last half tonight. I agree with what one person said in that it definitely doesn't feel like a traditional romcom. Or honestly even a romcom at all. There's probably dozens of other popular movies centered around "suave ladies man takes on hapless loser as a project and gets him to meet women" but they aren't really romcoms. And as someone else also mentioned, I think if the name was changed to something different it'd be received a lot differently.
Oh well. So far I dig it. I'm excited to finish it up and see where it goes.

Emma Stone is attractive, but she doesnt break the top ten of best looking women in this movie. personality does count for something though.

Sorry, I don't find her "hot" at all. She's fairly attractive, sure. And I'd never say she's ugly or any of that nonsense. But she is most definitely not hot to me. And don't get me wrong, I think she is well-cast in the movie, and she does a great job in it. And I also totally get why Gosling's character falls for her...it makes sense. Good for Jacob for finally seeing past looks and physical attraction and falling for someone who has more to give than just looks.
But that doesn't mean she's hot or that she isn't outkicking her coverage.

I think Jacob was just chasing something he couldn’t get. She was a 5 at best, but turned him down. I think that was his attraction. The Asian friend was better looking.

I agree with you, at least initially. But I think the night they spent together where they didn't have sex made him fall for her.
100% the reason he approached her initially is because she didn't give him the attention he wanted and trashed his pickup lines.

This conversation brings me to my next point
Hollywood somehow thinks marisa tomei is a 6 and is perfectly casted as desperate single women
Before the devil knows your dead: bangs a heroin addict PSH
My counsin Vinny: dating an older, failure, midget
What women want: somehow single and freaking out. At least it’s mind reading Mel Gipson
Crazy stupid love: single hot teacher? Give me a break. Every divorced rich dad is firing off on her
The wrestler: would legitimately be a top 1% hot stripper

5? Come on now. She’s not a 10 on looks alone, but 5?!? It’s like I tell my son in college that he should look for a girl that is pretty enough and then measure her by the other important factors. She is plenty pretty enough in that movie but I found her personality to be irresistible. I totally get her rising to the top of the pack in his mind.
