I'll admit I was hoping for more Nazi killing with the Basterds, but the way QT built suspense without it becoming boring was masterful.

I generally liked the movie, but the end bothered me a bit. Essentially, the Basterds had no purpose in the end of the movie. The theater owners would have killed all the Nazi's regardless of the Basterds being there. If anything, they would have gotten at least 1 more Nazi if the Basterds never showed up.

If it was just Shoshana, Hitler and Goebbels would have lived, thus not bringing an end to the war. But as Landa put it, it would have ruined the evening though.

That's a good point. I guess I was just a little dissapointed in how little the basterds were actually in the movie.

Plus since their plan failed, all the security was with Landa in a different building. Shoshanna's plan probably wouldn't have worked at all if the Basterds didn't come.

Chapter 1 was superb.

There wasn't enough development of the bastards though. I was expecting a bit more "Dirty Dozen". A little bit where he collects the team, a little bit where he trains them to be assassins, small amount of backstory on the Bastards, more suspense at the finale, etc. This was really a story about how the Bastards failed miserably in their final mission, and by pure luck Shoshanna/Emanuelle completes it for them.

I do applaud Hitler dieing. Everyone wants Hitler to die, who gives a frick if its not historical.

The whole basement bar scene was kind of ripped from "Where Eagles Dare" I think. The English guy was pointless kind of. Why introduce this dude who we have no stock in and then kill him off?

I was really expecting some kicking arse and taking names and I pretty much got the two guys in the balcony, and the one guy with the bat.

The English guy provided the means of killing off the other characters you care about. Plus the bar scene wouldn't have worked at all without him.

Too long, but I did like the hotness of Shoshana. QT's other flicks are better, but he still got Oscar nominations today.

That could have happened with someone you knew and liked in the bastards. Someone that you grew fond of as you saw his character develop. Someone that was doing great holding his own against the Gestapo guy, and you'd be like "Cool. He's going to pull this off" and then the 3 finger thing... and you'd be like "JIMMY NO! frick!"

A better movie was there with Landa vs. Shoshanna. Leave in the English guy as taking a team to try to kill Hitler at the threater. Take the Basterds out and the movie gets better.

That being said, Christoph Waltz was SUPERB and deserves every award he receives. If you are interested, his appearance on Adam Corolla's podcast was really interesting.

QT deserves serious props for the farmhouse scene, the restaurant scene (loved the music selection and the closeup of Shoshanna when Landa arrives) and the pub/tavern scene. However, his Basterds scenes were too over the top.

You have an odd definition of "popcorn flick."
