Another Star Wars director change. This from Lucasfilm just now: Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ.

Trevorrow is ok, but I'm not saddened by this. I hope they bring in a higher quality director.

Not saying he's terrible or anything, but it's still crazy to me that two major film studios trusted two of the largest franchises in the world to the guy that had only previously directed a low-budget indie that few people saw.

I see this as possible good news unlike what is going on in the Han Solo movie. Rain Johnson as far as I have seen is a far superior director to him, as is Abrams.

If you want a new director on the cheap who has done outstanding work in the past, like Rian Johnson, I'd advise Miguel Sapochnik. He has put forth mesmerizing direction and action. He directed Hardhome, Battle of the Bastards, and the Winds of Winter.

He is easy to manipulate and is just a corporate yes man. Star Wars is a huge break, and paycheck, for a young director like him so the studio can make him do whatever they want.

Marvel has a pretty decent batting average with inexperienced directors taking over gigantic properties. Maybe the Disney Star Wars folks ought to ask them how they do it?

I'd like to see what Zack Snyder could do with this franchise.

I'd be ecstatic. Even over Abrams, when it was first announced, I was a big advocate for Brad Bird to take over the franchise.

However he's busy wrapping up the Incredibles 2 at this time, so I'm not sure if he'd be able to do it.

Kevin Feige is the dictator of the Marvelverse and he seems to have a pretty good vision for what he wants to do. I don't know if Star Wars has that one person with total control or at least a good vision of where to take the franchise.

I never got why they went ahead and named a 3rd director anyway. If Johnson crushes this one, wouldn't you want him helming the 3rd?

frick no. I don't want him to have anything to do with it. Hell, I'm not even sure I want him to see it in the theater.

I think he has and after Han Solo they want people they feel comfortable with.

80% chance it is Rian.
