With Paramount taking over, I could see Ellison wanting to combine both universes. I doubt he wants two Batman’s going at the same time. Assuming he keeps everything the same

Lots of resources going into The Batman sequel. Gunn will be dropped, they know which side makes money and they know if they let Gunn continue they’ll end up with irreversible damage like Harry Potter.

I'm not challenging the character so much or his pecking order as a DC villain, but how well known is he and will he land well with fans as well as 'normies' who aren't as familiar with him?

And more importantly, will his adaptation work with the general audience?

IronMan wasn't a top tier Marvel character, but because it was RD Jr, he punched up the effort and really made him a likeable character.

I'll say this...

This looks 1000x better than the crap Sony has rolled out for the Spider-Man villains. It may or may not be great, but the bar Sony set is very, very low.

The Superman sequel will be his last movie for DC.

I know so little about Clayface. As a kid I saw the animated version and wasn’t impressed. Who is a big fan of this guy? What am I missing?

Matt Hagen is the second version of Clayface, and the first version to have actual supernatural powers.

Just like most Batman villains, he has a very tragic backstory for how he ended up the way he is. Like most DC Comics villains, this makes him relatable and much more entertaining than the average Marvel villain.

It looks as though he will be a vigilante of sorts in this film, rather than a straight up villain.

I assume he will go after the mobsters who disfigured him.

So they are making a stand-alone Batman villain movie with the lead looking nothing like the villain from the comics? This looks so cheap and thrown together w/ a nobody cast. It really pales in comparison to The Penguin series on HBO. The fact that they did it on 45M budget w/ practical effects is somewhat impressive. At least they won't lose their shirt. The average Penguin episode cost 16.8M.

James Gunn on various genres in DCU

“From the start we've been clear the DCU would be interconnected but each project would be full expressions of their writers & directors (similar to how DC Comics work - Saga of the Swamp Thing, Justice League International, Killing Joke, & All-Star Squadron are not one tone, and neither are Superman, Lanterns, Peacemaker, & Clayface). The film or show will play in whatever genre suits the story best. Clayface is not a "hybrid superhero horror film", it is a horror film.”

Won't stop a single poster here from calling everything a Gunn project.

It's a very basic villain with a tragic origin, until someone like Paul Dini writes a Batman episode like "Growing Pains" and suddenly there's an entirely different and amazing take on an old, standard bad guy.

Eddie Marsan was in Deadpool 2 as the headmaster, he was the main bad guy in Hancock and was the lead cop on the Sherlock Holmes movies - he is a good actor.
