And is your argument that it was Marvel's ONLY issue #1 that month?

No, my statement was that there were two mitigating factors:

1. It's a number 1 issue and number one issues always sell because people think they're collectors.

2. There's a major movie coming out two months after that book was released.

These are not small factors.

No Captain Marvel book made the list of top-selling books of 2018 or the list of top-selling graphic novels of 2018.

CAPTAIN MARVEL is tracking to open anywhere between $125 million to $145 million. Some believe it could hit $150M, says @PamelaDayM

Not me. It's going to overachieve. Box office numbers will make no sense at all.

It's going to open huge, but I'm very interested to see how it's legs are. A lot of these reviews are very lukewarm.

This is a fair point, but are we really going to pretend Brie Larson is as good of a lead actor as Chris Pratt?

If Captain Marvel is even half as good at GotG 1 or 2 I'll be absolutely floored.

I'm still considering going, but I want to see what else is showing this weekend first. I can't find showtimes for anything else other than a Tyler Perry movie right now.

keep in mind that Guardians was Pratt's first leading role.

Nobody knew he was going to be that good

Before that, he was just the chubbo from Parks and Rec

Wasn’t Chris Pratt in The O.C. or Dawson’s Creek back in the day too? It’s not like he was completely unknown. Plus dude got jacked and they should him shirtless in the trailer. Women ate that all up. Same reason why Jason Mamoa wasn’t wearing a shirt in any of the Aquaman trailers/commercials.

I dunno.

Never heard him referred to in any such roles.

Was he a lead on any of those programs?

Well she's won an Oscar for leading actress, so that has to count for something.

The roles were obviously very different, but its pretty silly for you to pretend she's not a good actress.

He was in 9 episodes of the OC, per his IMDB page
He was in 89 episodes of Everwood, which is apparently how long that show lasted.

So is Natalie Portman, when you see her in things like Black Swan - but she clearly had little interest beyond a paycheck when she was in Thor and Thor:TDW.

I always envisioned Captain Marvel as having a stronger force of personality than I've seen from Larsen. It's like getting Kate Micucci to play She-Hulk. I adore her as an actress, but that role would not fit her at all.

Was he a lead on either?

You can be on a show, and not be known for that show. Depends on character importance and/or popularity.

The cab driver (Rajit?) from HIMYM was in a whole bunch of episodes, but I couldn't tell you the actor's name with a gun to my head.

I don't think he had any real leading roles before GOTG. Seems like the only serious roles he had in bigger movies were Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty.

He was probably still most well known for Parks and Rec when he got cast as Starlord.

I'm guessing not the show he was only on 9 episodes for, and considering he's listed 6th or 7th on the IMDB page for Everwood, probably not that either.

Never saw either show, so...

I agree.

I actually have the XMen issue where she first appeared as Binary and helps them with the Brood. Man that thing turned out to be valuable.

Danvers was a strong personality able to hold her own with Wolverine...Larson doesn’t have the chops.
