Just watched with the kids. Overall it was better than we expected. Going in with low expectations helped I think. Brie was better than the trailers portrayed but her delivery was often stiff, especially during long conversations. It was weird to see Fury so happy and talkative. I agree with someone earlier, his CGI was great but coulsons looked terrible.

The mid credit scene was nice, but I hope they don’t make her the almighty force that kills Thanos herself. 20 Marvel movies and one new chick is gonna end it, that would suck.

Fury’s CGI was also easier going from late 60s to mid to late 40s whereas Coulson was going from mid 50s to late 20s

Hell for SLJ all he would need to do to look like he did circa Pulp is grow his hair out and get a few dollops of the right make up.

Brie Larson was kinda stiff starting out but grew on me. She is a good actress, maybe she would've been better playing a more 'dramatic' superhero.

Her power levels were all over the map, even after removing the inhibitor. Don't know why she would fist fight with normals when she could destroy ships solo.

CGI was bad at times, but that's Marvel
Overall was ok not bad, not great. Glad I saw it and look forward to what the Russo's do with her. Will obviously do the Winter Soldier vs First Avenger elevation in quality.

Hey boomer you do realize comic book movies are main stream right?

Chicks love them too not just some fat dude playing Halo in his basement. Hell the top three franchises right now are the MCU, Game Of Thrones, and The Walking Dead which is based on a comic series

I would say Star Wars but after Last Jedi it kind of died for me

You have a good point. Just didn’t see it that way when I was watching it. I was watching with my 7 yr old daughter so I didn’t mind it. Funny when we left the movie I asked my 6 year old boy what he liked about the movie. He said when Cpt Marvel turned into a boy so he could kill the bad guys and then became the superhero. So the movies meaning was totally lost on him.

The music was ok but when I’m Just a Girl started playing during a major fight scene it took me out of it and felt cliched and forced. Overall enjoyable but like others have said it’s middle of the pack.

Stan Lee tribute was a real nice touch. Wasn’t expecting that

Man I 100% agree with you this was my only real complaint about the film, that song completely took me out of the scene...

After a day to reflect on the movie and talk to my wife about it she said she was grinning ear to ear during it, and she finally understood that feeling me and my oldest son had with Led Zeppelin playing during Ragnarok, or 100 other similar scenes during the MCU.

That made me happy, I may be getting soft as I get older but my wife who was forced to watch many of these films by me and my two boys is now fully immersed in this universe.

I honestly enjoyed the movie. Not top tier MCU but in the middle somewhere, I tend to compare it to how I felt about CM the first Avenger.

Towards the last 1/3rd of the film I thought to myself, ok this character can fit right in with the Avengers.

I'm so ready for Endgame.

I agree. She gained momentum after she got to Earth. I enjoyed her performance. It took Evans two films before he settled in with Winter Soldier. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. But I agree that her power level was all over the place after she “leveled up”

I get she’s supposed to be the strongest but didn’t seem THAT much more powerful than Thor. I’m guessing the fight on the ship was her still figuring out her unlocked potential. She’s had 25 years since then though. She should be ready to wreck shop.

Really liked the Independence Day callback though

Remind me what that was. I must have missed it. Capt Marvel was set in 1995. ID was released in 1996.

Fury said “my bad”. NOBODY said that in 1995
You sure?

I saw it yesterday with the wife and we both enjoyed it, though I have some issues with it. My initial feeling is to put it in the lower middle of an MCU ranking, somewhere around Dr. Strange and Black Panther.

I stand corrected. I guess it was 1985 that I was thinking of. My decades run together. It just wasn’t as horrible as it is these days.

He was Captain America as soon as he threw himself on that grenade in First Avenger. There isn’t a better moment in any superhero film.

You know not everyone who disagrees with you is old or a fat guy living in a basement, right? Of course you do. You’re just using the “boomer” and “fat basement guy” because that’s how you deal with people who disagree with you. You can’t fight their opinions with legit points of your own. So what do you do? You just discredit them with name calling and resort to shame. Because that’s all the weapons you got in your arsenal.

Having said that, let me go and shove a couple of whoppers down my neck and then take a nap in my basement. My arthritis is killing me.

So is she supposed to be Superman-like in that she is immune to bullets and super strong along with her energy powers or is she like a Jean Grey or Storm in that her energy powers are off the map but a bullet or hand to hand combat could kill her?

It was not clear to me, I know she was just learning her powers though.

Enjoyed the film overall

I wish there was a bigger showcase of her powers unlocked. Blowing up the ship was fricking awesome at the end. Wished there was more than that.

Brie Larson was fine as Carol Danvers. Not spectacular, but fine. I blame some of the woodeness people talk about on the script. The scenes she did with her best friend after they reconnect were great.

The canyon dogfight was definitely inspired by Independence Day.

I thought the personality of Danvers was just that: the personality of the character, not a reflection of Larson’s ability or inability to act well.

In the context of the movie, she seemed wooden and stoic because it’s how she was trained not because Larson acts like Ben Stein

I’d disagree. He was good in that movie but he had some campy lines and delivered them campy (which I get was kind of Cap’s MO in the comics but still) and Joss almost played him as a joke/camp in The Avengers.

Winter Soldier, Evans really found a groove with the character and that may have been due to the Russo’s but he was the same in Age of Ultron and from that point on. I get what you’re saying, and that was a great Cap moment, but not the moment Evans became Cap, to me
