But he was white and the actor who played him in that particular film was also white. :\

What historic people have been race swapped in Bridgerton?

Because color is never mentioned

It is mentioned, very briefly, and they don't belabor it, but the Duke's father (I think--could have been the lady that basically raised the duke) mentions it, and talks about how the king marrying a black woman opened up doors to people who "have skin like us" or something along those lines. I took this whole show to be a sort of alternate universe, a fantasy "what if" based on the idea that Queen Charlotte was undeniably black and chosen by the king for love, which changed the way society regarded black people and elevated their status in society.

Seems like light hearted fluffy entertainment to me.

I watched and actually liked Downton Abbey but I couldn’t get through the first couple episodes of this.

Queen Charlotte for one. While it has become popular thanks to the show to say that she for sure had African ancestry (she probably did), she most definitely wasn't black. All European royal families were linked to the kingdom of Castille and therefore had Moorish blood infused within them. Charlotte's African ancestry wasn't special. In fact it was very common.

My wife was binging this while I was surfing TD and Reddit on my phone. At some point, it seemed like the show tossed plot out the window and went all in on Fifty Shades. The show seemed stuffy and sophomoric, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look up and now and then to catch the occasional titty.

This is how I feel. I’m a woman and I read and thoroughly enjoyed the books years ago. I knew it would be somewhat cheesy when I saw Shonda Rimes had a hand in it. I finished the season and it was entertaining but Pride and Prejudice it is not.

Casting was well done though. Lady Danbury was fabulous and I loved Nicola as Penelope (one of my favorite characters from the series).

If you like Bridgerton and haven’t seen the A&E version of P&P with Colin Firth I highly recommend.

That means she likely had more Arab in her than West African.

So she had African ancestry, Moorish blood and was contemporaneously described as mulatto with black facial features and here you are saying she wasn't black. It's pretty widely accepted that Queen Charlotte was biracial. The only one race swapping historical figures is you.

The range of the actors didn’t bother me. It was explained easily enough and at least it was explained. Zero issue. Little bit of guilty pleasure watch for me. No way would I have stuck it out if I couldn’t binge it. Would have lost interest waiting a week for each episode. The ending obviously left plenty open but I think it gave too much away and not without enough work. Wish they would have kept the writer a mystery and that Daphne was pregnant and had a boy. But still... plenty to build on.

Apparently, it’s based on a series of novels about the family, so there is still a lot that they can cover. It took me a while to get into it, but I ended up enjoying it. Eloise was a hoot. Easily my favorite character.

There's also a great deal of evidence that Queen Charlotte was black.

I've been watching it with my wife, and I can enjoy it for what it is. My wife does get a little pissy at my running commentary about the Duke of Hastings and how ridiculous he is..."It is because I care for you so much that I cannot marry you" If they cut out the Duke/Daphne story line, I'd probably like it a lot more

Yeah, I find it very disconcerting to see a bunch of black aristocracy in 18th century England. It doesn't work.

It absolutely works. Because it's not a show that's firmly rooted in historical accuracy.

If you can deal with Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart with a horrid Scottish accent, I think you can probably deal with this. Or maybe not.
