Breaking Bad vs. The Sopranos

I am now mid way into season 3 of Breaking Bad. My wife and I are both becoming obsessed with this show. My question to you is is Breaking Bad better than the Sopranos? I have never seen the Sopranos and would like to get the boards thoughts on this. TIA

I have not watched a single episode of breaking bad. I have seen every single episode of The Sopranos. Hard to imagine it being better. Sopranos was that good

I just finished the Sopranos series. I like BB better. I am not saying the Sopranos was not good, I did enjoy it also.

Everyone has their opinions on shows. I don't really like detective or cop shows so the wire was boring to me. Boardwalk, sopranos, and BB are my style. Watch sopranos just to experience the ups and downs of Tony.

Breaking Bad and The Sopranos are tied for 2nd on my all time favorites list, with The Wire being #1.

I'm only toward the end of Season 2 of BB and I understand it picks up even more. I've seen every Sopranos episode. Just last night I was thinking that BB was getting to the Sopranos level. If I had to take into considering that BB was going to get better, I'd say pretty damn close.

I've watched The Sopranos through twice. It's hands down my favorite TV show all time. I just got into Breaking bad a week ago and, like you, I'm pretty obsessed. It's the best show I've seen since The Sopranos. I can't say BB is better until I see how they end it. Both shows are truly terrific and neither will disappoint. I'd just recommend you enjoy both for what they are. It's a 1a 1b debate IMO.

How good would it have been with the constraints of cable TV censorship? That's one of the reasons I think BB is better. But not by much.

They are both perfect.
I would say that The Sopranos was a bit self-important.
Breaking Bad never had pretensions to High Art.
The tenor of each is completely different.
I give them both an A+.

If this were a horse race, the wire would win the race by about 2 lengths. The sopranos would win 2nd place in a photo finish to Breaking Bad
I've seen every eposide of both at least 2-3 times. Sopranos is better. but not by a lot. it has more depth, more character development and is more unpredictable.
The thing about the sopranos is the same thing that made the wire great. Anyone can get got at any time. big pussy? bye. Chris? bye. Adriana? Bye. Lil Tony? bye.
To me, season 2 keeps breaking bad from ever being better than the sopranos because there is no way in hell that Jessic makes it out of season 2 alive if that were the same writing as the sopranos. he had gone completely ape shite and at some point int he show you realize, he isn't going anywhere regardless of how shitty he makes everyone else's lives.
