“Michael” has surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales, becoming the first biopic to achieve the coveted box office milestone.
The crowd-pleasing film about Michael Jackson has generated $629.8 million overseas and $371.8 million domestically, bringing its global tally to $1.001 billion.
Among its accolades, “Michael” stands as the highest grossing musical biopic, surpassing 2018’s Queen sensation “Bohemian Rhapsody” with $911 million worldwide, as well as the biggest film based on a real person, overtaking 2023’s “Oppenheimer” with $975 million. It’s also the largest film of all time for Lionsgate, as well as the studio’s first movie to ever reach $1 billion. Prior to “Michael,” Lionsgate’s highest-grossing releases were 2013’s “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” with $865 million and 2012’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” with $850 million. Lionsgate produced “Michael” and handled the rollout in North America, while Universal distributed the movie at the international box office.

That shouldn't be surprising.
It looks horrendous.

No one asked for it. Dwayne Johnson isn't the on screen draw Disney thinks he is. Never has been. Even in Jumanji he played a part of a larger ensemble cast, not a singular center of attention. But people got to work on a crap project, so that's what Disney is about these days.

John Gruden got cancelled from the NFL because he called a guy a f@g in an email 20 years ago, but we are encouraged to flock to glowing bio-pics about child molesters who sing songs about 'pretty young things.'
What a time to be alive.
What a time to be alive.

1 Billion for a movie glorifying a child predator and glossing over literally all of the controversy in his life is insane

1 billion is crazy. I figured it'd do well but not that much.
I thought they said there was going to be a part 2 that covered the controversy. I have no idea what timeline they covered but I thought I read a link someone posted on here that the story wasn't done.

I’m pretty sure he is still black at the end, so they have plenty of story left to tell. I’m waiting to stream it for free soon.
