Bobby Flay and Food Network to 'part ways' after 27 years

I know there are Food Network people out there.
I used to be a big fan of Bobby Flay but in these last several years fame really seems to have gotten to his head. In fact there are a few personalities on that channel that seem to have gotten pretty pompous.
I read where Guy Fieri signed a huge 3 year 80 Million dollar contract with Food Network and I'm guessing the Flay camp got a little jealous.
LINK .
He'll never be in Gordon Ramsay's league.

Bobby Flay and Food Network are reportedly ending their partnership after 27 years, a stint that turned the chef into a household name
A source close to Food Network told Variety that a 'decision has been made to move on as the sides were far apart on financial terms'
It was also reported that Food Network were the ones to 'put an end to negotiations' after going back-and-forth on a new contract for some time
Reps for Flay declined to comment on the situation, which Variety says is 'an indication that Flay’s team sees some hardball negotiating tactics afoot'

Flay will just start a podcast, YouTube channel, cookware/lifestyle brand, and probably make a deal with Netflix or Hulu or Amazon and make just as much or more than he would on a Food Network contract.
These networks don't have near the same hold or leverage over personalities as they once did.

Wow
Shudder to think what Gordon Ramsey makes with all his shows.
Guy's restaurant in NYC was panned and how many Diners, Drive-ins and Dives can he visit?
On Hot Ones when asked about the bad reviews on Guy's restaurant, Ramsey quipped "look, I like Guy but you can't put Donkey Sauce on everything."
I can't fathom why Guy is commanding such a contract...he had one cute show but his cooking shows are Rachel Ray-esque. Lets put hotdogs on Nachos...do we really need instructions for that haute cuisine?

Have you watched Food Network lately? Guy's Grocery Games or Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is on for hours and hours each day. Both shows occupy at least 50% of Food Network's schedule now.

So, do the guys from Ridiculousness command $50 million contracts?

Flay is an elite chef, but Ramsay is exponentially better as it relates to fine dining. I actually just went to Hell’s Kitchen at caesars in Vegas and had the beef Wellington and it was divine.

Not saying he doesn't have content, I'm saying look at the content. I mean, that contract is insane for The Food Network. Does Rachel make $500 mil a year? We're not talking Friends here.
I always figured they went the MTV route and just started showing reruns of the same 'ol shows. So if 50% is right, its just recycled. If it makes them money I guess...just don't know how that property is so valuable now when they've basically given up like MTV and the History Channel to the lowest common denominator.

Maybe it's just me, but I find it almost impossible to not pronounce his name Bobby Filet.

Just shocked that wristband wearing Oaktown guy has become the face of Food Network and that he can command that contract...unless Food Network has gone all Honey Boo-Boo.

That sucks. "Beat Bobby Flay" is my go-to.
Can learn some really good tips on cooking normal/home dinner food

Flay has the personality of unpainted drywall.
Guy is relatable and likeable and that's more the direction Food Network seems to be pushing.
If you want stuffy cooking experts, Chopped is on all the time also.

I like watching shows that teach techniques, manipulation of spices and how to better use various foods. One thing that I'll give Bobby Flay credit for is he was really good at talking about how to better use spices. You can elevate very basic dishes with a better understanding of spices.
I really was into Alton Brown's "Good Eats". He really got into the science of how various foods work.
Now it's all competition.

But I don't need to know how to cook "20 year old fermented cow tongue"
Chopped went to shite when they went overboard on ingredients.

I lost respect for Bobby Flay when I watched him compete on Iron Chef. At the end of one of the challenges, he stood up on the island where he was cooking to get the crowd pumped up. The Iron Chef he was competing against thought that was disrespectful - something about his culture thinks it's either very unsanitary to do that or that there's something sacred about a cutting board. In any event, Bobby knew it was disrespectful to his hosts. So what does he do? The very next challenge ends and he does the same thing and stands on top the table. I mean, if you're in someone else's house, and you know you're doing something to offend them, and then you choose to repeat it...just rubbed me the wrong way and haven't watched him since. Maybe the whole thing was staged - who knows?!!?
