Finally saw it last night. Wish I would have seen it in a theater. One of the best movies I've seen in awhile. Do yourself a favor and watch it if you haven't.

Just saw it last month and I agree. I also saw all 9 Best Picture nominees and think it should have been one of them.

The score and dark tones were fantastic.

The Oscar's are a joke anyway. It deserved so much more love.

My woman got me this guy after seeing how obsessed I was. If you can find it online cheap, makes for a really cool coffee table book. The images are only second to the real cinematography in the film. Has detailed stories behind everything. Amazing production through and through. And GD Gosling has cemented himself as a true beast, not just a shitty DB that has to give it up to Petey.

As a huge fan of the original ... I agree, 2049 was a solid sequel.

Do yourselves a favor...invest in the Blu-Ray for this movie. A lot of great extras, including three (3) little vignettes that "fill in the blanks" between 2019 and 2049.

Probably a dumb question but I am assuming I would need to see the other Blade Runner movies before this one correct?

Yeah, I would watch "The Final Cut" version of Bladerunner before seeing it. I did to refresh my memory, since it had been a while since I had watched Bladerunner. You definitely need to be familiar with it before seeing 2049.

I also watched the 3 short films they released, which sort of bridge the gap between the 2 films.

Blackout 2022
2036: Nexus Dawn
2048: Nowhere to Run

ETA: The shorts are not essential. I know when this sort of content exists, I feel like I'm being given homework before I can even get to the thing I want to see. Having said that, I enjoyed watching them before seeing 2049.

Really? An important character from the first film is re-introduced in nearly the exact way they were in the original, which is a pivotal part of the movie. If you don't know who that person is or why they are significant, that scene loses a lot of its meaning.

Regardless, there's no reason to not see the original anyway, so I would go ahead and do it before seeing its sequel.

Are you talking about R? I really think the movie does well to bring you up to speed on who she is. If you pay attention, I don’t think anyone should be confused.

I'm hesitant to discuss too much because this scene was completely unexpected for me. I don't think anyone would be confused but there's a difference between knowing who a character is as a raw data point and knowing who they are through storytelling. The power and shock of that scene comes from being familiar with that character in the context of the previous film.

Let me calrify and say that I went into 2049 completely "blind," outside of the short films I posted above. I avoided the trailers because I wanted to be surprised while watching it. If someone saw every trailer, watched actor interviews beforehand, and looked up the cast on IMDB, etc, that part of the film may not have landed in the way it did for me.

Not saying they should've won, but 2049 and Wind River deserved nominations IMO.

I think 2049 is a masterpiece.

i've never seen the original but know the plot line fairly well.

i enjoyed 2049. it was definitely a slow burn, but i liked the set up. my wife hated it, but she doesn't really like scifi.

great score and cinematography.

You suck for not seeing it in a Dolby theater.

I had to have my fillings reattached after that experience.

Best movie of 2017 IMO.

So glad I saw it in a badass theater with great sound. Need to check it out again on blu-ray.

No offense. Woman don't generally like anything "good".
