It's not "Fee", it's "Ffion", which is Irish.

any of the new folks watch any over the break?

San Junipero was cringe worthy. The forced homosexual relationship that was shoved down our throatswas stupid. They could have easily made that exact same episode with a heterosexual couple and it would have been infinitely better.

I think I read something where the writers said they were going to do a hetero love story but changed their minds for some reason I can't remember...maybe it would stand out more if it was les? Idk.
With that said it didn't bother me. The lezzing out scene was cringey but I don't think the storyline itself or the episode was crap just because it was 2 females. I think that might actually be my favorite ep from this season.

The one where everyone is rated is my favorite from this season.

I LOVED that one all the way up until the last 5-10 minutes. Really really liked the plot idea but the end just didn't do it for me, and it kinda came off like a cheesy romcom ending to me.

I still haven't watched the final episode, but I heard it's one of the weaker ones.

I was a bit let down with it. It seemed like HITN was this board's favorite (or up there) of the new season so I had sky high hopes, which admittedly is my own fault. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I dont' think it sets itself apart from any of the other "good" BM episodes.

I just started the series last night. Watched the first two. Intrigued to see the rest of them.
National Anthem was kind of clever. That everyone kept watching even though they were clearly disgusted seemed like an unfortunately real depiction of what would happen in that situation. I thought the foreshadowing pointing at the artist was heavy handed. I knew he would be behind it when they showed the news clip of the exhibit closing as an example of the "fluff news" being covered while burying the kidnapping.
15 Million Merits was depressing. I know it's a commentary on tech and our daily interaction with it, but it also helps to highlight the monotony of life for anyone that doesn't particularly enjoy their job but does it to pay the bills. And there are no real winners. The system doesn't change at all, the main guy just gets to a better part of the system.

welcome aboard
Not sure if you've skimmed through this thread, but every other episode but 1 is more like 15MM in "feel", as far as being kinda "out there" and futuristic. National Anthem (and S2 E3, waldo moment) are both outliers in the series in feel, as well as just not being very good IMO.
I like that you're intrigued now, because the next episode (entire history of you) is one of the best I think. Interested to hear your feedback after watching that one. Please watch it tonight.

I'll just keep bumping this for the new folks so they can chime in after watching new eps.
15 Million Merits Spoilers Below
I remember liking 15MM when I first watched it but hadn't seen it since, and this thread got me in the mood so I rewatched last night. I still enjoyed it but it seemed a little "off" to me during the big climax scene. We have these people in this trapped world with basically nothing to live for and nothing going for them. The only thing they have for entertainment is wraith-girls films, a pop show, or games they play in their holding cells. Clearly these people's entire lives are monotonous and boring with no real hope of escape.
So when Bing is on stage and holds the glass to his throat, the whole point is for everyone to STFU for a minute so he can speak his peace. But wouldn't it seem like people would be more entertained by watching him do it? Kinda morbid to think about but when he first pulls it out it seems like people would think more like "He's not gonna do it. I bet he wont'. Go ahead and do it then!!" simply for the entertainment value.
Also after he is "free", he has a show that we see people watch while biking. He again has the glass to his throat. How could they keep that going and stay fresh? After he puts it away and is like "ok that's all for this week, see ya next time", does the next show start with him grabbing it and being intense again? People would see through that pretty quick. I wonder if there's ever a time period where if his show doesn't get enough viewers he has some sort of punishment or is put back in a cell.
Another thing, and this isn't a criticism of the episode just thinking as a viewer, I would have loved some more backstory on this universe. How did people get to this point? Who is in charge? Is there any end game other than just powering all the electronics via cycling? How did the "regular" people (the show hosts, the assistants working backstage of the show, etc) get to that point?

In their AMA, they said something like originally wrote a love story that it didn't matter who was who. Then they could just get the actors they wanted.
I think the gay/les relationship works because it brings up religion on two levels (the coma and the reason she is in it).
The episode brings up a lot of questions about the afterlife. If they had ignored any religion the viewer could just assume that this future is largely atheist. That lessens the impact of the two people choosing to live out in SJ.

Didn't want to touch this thread until I was done, re: Spoilers.
Great show, absolutely terrifying with how close they can get to contemporary existence and tweak just enough to be convincing.
Top 3 Favorites are probably
Entire History of You
Nosedive
White Bear
I think, at least for me, the show gets the most scary where public interaction is augmented by information where it shouldn't be: the recordings in EHOY and Social interaction in Nosedive.
I mean, that's where we are sort of going right? (Hello, Yelp reviewers.) The ability to compile and use information that just wouldn't be possible with technology and then use that in everyday circumstances - the guy that couldn't get into the Coffee shop in Nosedive, just wow.
But yeah, great show, I do hope Netflix continues making it.
