I just did a rewatch a month or so ago. It's more stand alone episodes but with a story line in the background usually that spans the entire season. This gets stronger as the seasons roll along.

And Boyd's storyline runs from beginning to becoming the main story in the final season.

Only season which is not up there for me is the one with Michael Rappaport playing the white trash from Florida, and even then there were many things that I liked.

I've got a soft spot for Justified for sure.

I would go a few years back and really twist it up.

It definitely gets more in depth with the marshal and his best buddy from high school. One of the greatest pairings i have ever seen in a show. Hands down one of the greatest series i have ever seen. You really have to watch the back and forth between Ralyan and Boyd. Its truly fricking electric.

The first season was pretty much all "bad guy of the week" style. Season 2 they switched to season long arcs and stayed like that until the end.

You really should at least watch season 2 before bailing on the series, it is almost universally praised.

Season 2 is the one with Margo Martindale (from Americans, Sneaky Pete) and her degenerate hillbilly family running the weed operation up in the holler.
