It seems to me that internet culture has made him WAY bigger than he actually is. He's funny, don't get me wrong. But since around 08-09 when Zombieland came out, he has been made into some god of comedy. To me he is not as great as everyone makes him out to be.

Because he is a goofball that doesn't take himself too seriously and enjoys doing things with fans. The internet is usually kind to those types of celebs.

If you want to see a different side of Bill Murray from an acting pov, go watch The Razor's Edge. He agreed to to Ghostbusters if the studio would finance Razor. He still inserts some comedic content into the movie but it's not a comedy and by far my favorite of his movies.

If your OPINION is his work doesn't measure up then of course you're entitled to it and no other poster will ever change your mind. However, MAJORITY opinion is that his catalog of work is one of the best in TV/film history.

...and these posts are just about his comedy work. I thought his work in The Razor's Edge was phenomenal, and showed he could work beyond just comedy.

Most everyone here seems to have felt that way about him by the 80's. The only people who were influenced by his Zombieland performance are younger people that may not have watched his early work. People that had only seen the later part of his career, stuff like Life Aquatic, Rushmore, Lost in Translation, may feel Zombieland gave his career some kind of boost, but his earlier films, and SNL are what made him an icon.

He also said that Bill Murray was a complete dick to Scott Caan all night because he had no respect for him riding his dad's name to fame

He must hate his brother Brain Doyle Murray, Jim Belushi and Chris Farley's brother.

Read a little closer. That's when the internet started acting like he was the greatest gift to comedy that's ever lived.

I read it.

People treated him like that well before Zombieland
