Spaceballs was viewed as a flop when it was released. Didn't gain traction till DVD stuff
I saw it the first weekend of release. We were all disappointed. I've watched again, have it on DVD. It's ok but not near his best work

I don't see the debate here.

Lt. Hurwitz...severe shell shock. Thinks he's Ethel Merman.

Was "Airplane" a parody of some other movie?

My bad, wasn't logged on when I read first page so the picture didn't show up.

It is literally a shot for shot remake using mostly the same words, but with a comedic spin.
When I finally saw Zero Hour! it was impossible not to laugh at it though it was trying to be a serious movie.

How could anyone choose spaceballs over airplane? Yikes the opinions on this board.

I wouldn't even rate Spaceballs as one of Brooks's top 3. I think he was past his prime when he did that one. I liked Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and History of the World Part 1 all better.

spaceballs and it is not even close. Airplane is funny but I don't really see it as the comedy classic it is made to be. It was just the first of the goof movies I suppose. I don't know.

Watch Spaceballs now, not from what you remember as a kid. Watch Airplane. You'll come back and apologize.

I've never even thought to consider these movies as being on the same planet quality wise.
It's insulting Airplane! that this is even being discussed.

I watched airplane a month ago. I think it's funny, just not all time great funny. Spaceballs has star wars and judaism...can't beat that ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I get that you love SW, so you relate to this one better. Very heavy on the Jewisms.
But as far as all-time classics, there isn't even a question. I watched SB about a year ago and I cringed way too much. Cried laughing when I was a kid, but not so much now. Still has some funny stuff. Airplane is a classic. Still funny as hell too.

Airplane is just not my style of comedy. Reminds me of The Holy Grail type of comedy, another popular comedy that I am just not fond of.
Just not a fan of Leslie Nielsen. I didn't even like when he worked with Mel Brooks on the Dracula spoof (brooks worst work and he typically does well with any actor) But a lot of people like this style. I will have to try watching Airplane a second time. I know Spaceballs took me a few viewings to really enjoy it.

Cut out all the Jew talk. We don't want CT and trackfan crossing over to this board, now do we. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconspank.gif)
