This is a topic I could go on about for hours having practically been raised by a television set in the 1980s. One almost has to separate his answers into categories between action/adventure shows and sitcoms...

Off the top of my head, I’ll cast my vote for The Dukes of Hazzard. No less than Waylon Jennings sang the theme and to this day it’s revered as something of an unofficial Southern National Anthem.

A sitcom theme that merits a mention is Perfect Strangers. It’s an uplifting tune that makes you wanna get up and turn your situation around.

Really, there a dozens of themes that could be listed here. I’ll stop now and leave some to be named by others...

I think something that has to be asked is whether this is as a standalone song or to the fitting of the show.

Dukes of Hazzard was absolutely perfect when fitting a song to the show. Firefly is another one that has a song that fits the show very well. Others in this category would be X-Files, Cheers, and Jeffersons.

Songs that were intros that you can't get out of your head and everyone knows, something like Andy Griffith and Mission Impossible come to mind right away. You whistle either one and people know what it is.

Standalone songs that were on the intro but were big songs: Friends intro song was everywhere on the radio. Dawson's Creek was another.

Then you have the grand intro scores like Game of Thrones and Westworld that are just beautiful works.

That sick opening bass guitar part from the Barney Miller theme is sweet AF.

Like someone else said, Dukes of Hazard.
Would also add MASH, and In the Heat of the Night.
