I rewatched Halloween today because of this thread and lost it when Michael carjacks the nurse. I was thinking, "This kid has been locked up since he was six, how does he know how to drive?" And then the very next scene, a character yells, "How the hell did he learn to drive?!" Perfect timing.
Not a great movie. It's coasting on name recognition.

I really sound like I’m shitting on the movie, but I do like it a lot, flaws and all. I just don’t understand how Halloween has made it this far when Texas Chainsaw Massacre didn’t. I think TCM is a legitimately scarier and overall better made movie. Maybe even a perfect movie honestly.

Exorcist
I guess it somewhat depends on what you want from a horror movie...
The Exorcist bothers me, I have terrible dreams and am in a weird mindframe for days afterwards.
Slasher movies don't do that to me. Monster movies don't do that (The Thing, Alien, etc). Honestly most of the other supernatural type stuff doesn't. But after watching the Exorcist, things like a light flickering the next day or so, frick me up. I think that has to count for something.

I enjoy Halloween more, & it's more re-watchable but The Exorcist is scarier & more frightening.
