I've seen everything they've done, if you take out True Grit I've seen them all at least twice.

Big Lebowski, will always be my favorite. I can't claim it's well made, or that it's timeless, or that it's a pinnacle of cinema. What it is, is my "go to" movie. When I'm tired and just want to relax it's the movie I go to more than any other.

Their best movie, IMO, was "O Brother, Where Art Thou" and it fricking sucked.

Their films are some of the most overrated movies I've ever seen, second to Quentin Tarantino's of course.

Overrated to people that prefer dumbed-down action flicks over dark comedies with intelligent writing.

You let us know when "Big Momma's House" wins an Oscar.

Fargo
O Brother
Barton Fink
Millers Crossing
Blood Simple
Lebowski
True Grit
Raising Arizona
Burn After Reading
No Country (like it a lot but really a Cormac McCarthy film)
Serious Man
Ladykillers
Hudsucker

Never have seen Intolerable Cruelty or The Man Who Wasn't There (now on Netflix list)

The order above can change a great deal depending on my mood.

ETA a couple of them I forgot.

I'm shocked by the lack of support the Ladykillers is getting.

BTW that's funny they directed intolerable cruelty. took the wife to see it on a date and really liked it which I thought was weird b/c I normally hate romantic comedies.

now I know why I liked it

I'm sorry Burn After Reading sucked Brad. You were kind of funny in it.

Take away Intolerable Cruelty and The Ladykillers, and you've got a hell of a catalogue that's hard to reduce to one favorite. It's a tribute to the brothers that they can make such diverse movies, although they all have that certain "touch".

"Blood Simple" gets points for being their intro and blowing people away with its "noir" originality.

Man, hard to say. I can't, in all honesty, pick only one.

I do agree that "The Man who Wasn't There" and "Hudsucker" are overlooked or underrated at times.

If you put a gun to my head, I might be able to narrow it down to "Fargo", "No Country", "Oh, Brother" . . . all for achieving mass appeal PLUS truly interesting filmmaking.

But, then again, "Miller's Crossing" and "Barton Fink" were great movies. And I never get tired of "Raising Arizona".

frick it. I can't decide.

I think it shows how deserving of their reputation they are that what's considered their best movie/movies vary to such a wide degree depending on who you ask.

I never a meet a person yet who doesn't like at least one Coen Bros movie and if I did I wouldn't respect their opinion on movies.

Raising Arizona for me.
The Dude comes in at a close second.

They should have to appologize for Intolerable Cruelty.

agree, it's hard to pick a fav. most memorable scene though for me was in Fink, the fire scene, unforgettable.

I thought that movie was hysterical. But it was just me, I think.
