Battlebots 2019

With bots from nine nations and 67 bots, there are old favorites and some new ones that are really well designed.
It's on Friday nights on Discovery and repeats with a slightly different version Wednesday night on Science channel.
They've added a segment about what a bot has to do to show that it's safe enough to fight in a cage and their new chatty female seems to be interested and asks good questions. The ringmaster's patter is hilarious.
Good summer fun.

Started watching it last year. Some of those bots are pretty frightful

It’s kinda amazing how much more advanced they have gotten in their 10 year hiatus. Half the ones in the old show could barely move, now they have drones that shoot fire.

I am quite sure that many of them could easily kill a man.

INB4 Hawgsince comes in and tells us how he or a MMA fighter could take out Tombstone.
I enjoy the show but I do find myself fast forwarding to the actual fights, but I do that with MMA and boxing as well, I can't think of when I have watched the intro or even the corner time during fights.

Obtuse1,
Give the intro a chance this season. It's a well photographed montage of lots of the great bots and their builders from years past. Some of the bots don't appear changed at all (although most say they've upgraded the 'workings'.
We rewatched tonight, and there is a new wheel with built in rollers between two discs that make up one tire. Moves smoothly.
Huge is now a smaller iteration of last year's huge and there's this big gangly thing that almost works like a trebuchet.
OT If I watch walking dead and other zombie stuff I get nightmares. I can watch Battlebots and sleep soundly with no bad dreams.

I will, I will probably rewatch the episodes.
One thing I have to say is the Texas Twister vs Black Dragon was (in its way) epic BUT the judges got that one SOOOO wrong. It is the only decision I have ever thought was nuts.

I was pondering making a season thread. But I’ve made season threads before that went nowhere.
I love how Duck got revenge. frick those dumbass judges last year. And Capt Shrederator should’ve wasted that Chinese team. But those spinners are bad about knocking themselves out.

we use to have season thread(s) when battlebots was on abc.
Needs to be brought back to abc.

Said in a (Wayne's World) Garth voice," abc is not worthy."

It's a good if you record and want to watch and hour show in 10-15 minutes

They would hugely benefit from making all the fight live events and a separate episode for the in between stuff.

The improvements to Duck make it a challenger. Tombstone will destroy Mammouth (The Trebuchet) it has no defensive capabilities. Bronco (The Flipper) will be next week's main event

What is the new meta offensive tactic?

I'm not sure what you're asking.
Things that seem to be different (to me) (and we've been watching since the had multiple size classes and we made tapes to rewatch (and there was a forum where the participants talked about basics like which cordless drill motors were stronger and on sale.)
The outdoor box where the bots have to pass certain tests before they can participate down stairs. The interviews with the bot builders.
An almost throwaway line from Tombstone's builder that Tombstone can rotate at 400 rpm, but Battlebots' rules limit him to 250 rph and they tested for that as the max it could do. (Spoiler plates, anyone?) Ray Billings may be the most hated person, but may have a better feel for strategy than almost anyone else. And he's added additional different spinners- and he doesn't bother to cover /protect his wheels.
In two nights I don't think we saw any total annihilation like last year when you just knew that the bot couldn't be rebuilt for its next scheduled match.
Wheels vs.tracs. Not as many, so far on tracs, and a lot more exposed wheels.
Newsweek has picked ten "mostg terrifying".

Tombstone totally pwned Lockjaw in episode 1. Billings is just as brilliant a driver as he is a builder.

I can't find where I read this, but Billings had that planned in advance.
He let Lockjaw hit him once on each side and then turned around, with his back to Lockjaw (which would back up and then charge him.) As soon as Lockjaw began his approach for its third hit, Tombstone (whose blade never stopped spinning) did a fast 180 and ripped one side of Lockjaw off, wheels, siding and innards. Billings said he figured he could sustain two hits and then give a KO on the third. You'd recognize his little smirk as he described what happened.
