Batman Begins Time Period

I haven't seen it mentioned or discussed, so I apologize if Germans. I know that Burton intentionally tried to misrepresent the time period in his version of Batman, did Nolan attempt to do this with Begins? Although its pretty clear that it is modern day thanks to the cars and technology.
The reason I ask is due to the conversation between Alfred and Wayne on their way back to Gotham.
Afred makes the comment: "In the depression, your father nearly
bankrupted Wayne Enterprises..."
The Depression was in the 30's and Bruce's father couldn't have been over 45 when he was murdered. So assuming his father was late 20s/30's when he was running the company in the depression and that Bruce was around 10 when his father was murdered, that puts the movie set somewhere in 60's, since Bruce is 30 for the main part of the movie.
Intentional or mistake on the writers part?
Sorry if TLDR

I've never given that line much thought, but now that you mention it, it has to be some kind of mistake in the writing.
That's a solid 40-50 year hole in the time period no matter how you slice it.
I'm fine with just writing it off as a fictional universe where advanced technology can exist in the 60s and 70s, but in that case the writers should have never brought up the depression at all. That way it's never even an issue.
Good catch.

I usually just assume it's in an alternate universe since the city Gotham doesn't exist in this one, eh?

He's not referring to the Great Depression. He's referring to an alternate one that affected Gotham.

I assumed it was a city depression. Similar to Detroit.

This is what I assumed.

I thought this as well

Yes. Gotham exists in a universe where open theft and fraud can be committed against a corporation with no recourse.

*spoilers*
Later in the movie it's revealed that the League of Shadows had attempted to financially ruin much of the industry in Gotham, so I assume it was more of a city-wide depression ala Detroit than a nationwide one.

I kind of thought that too, but theres really only one "Depression" and then with what Burton did with his Batman, I didn't know if it was a similar attempt that wasn't as well done
Just asking the question

Really, Batman as a character works best in the 1930s and 40s. Mobs in full power, poverty is huge, people are superstitious, and it was feasibl blimps would be the next big thing.
