Wrong, they all know the meme. Unlike you I have and coach children, they mostly live online and all know the meme.

you are out of touch
you really think 100 out of 100 people in their 20s know the "what year is this?" meme

That’s the inverse of reality but par for the course with you

You’re flailing now because you ignorantly debunked your own narrative. “Reality isn’t online” yet these kids spend almost all of their time there. They’re more familiar with it than older people are so again your ignorant attempt at a point isn’t just wrong it’s antithetical to reality.

I'm not flailing at all. I'm enjoying this.
I have a brother that just graduated college.

the majority of them think online is TikTok. they aren't browsing message boards and posting memes

Yea that’s just false, they play in online video game communities, they’re on all social media, they watch tik tok but mostly they watch YouTube.

You can feel it in the air.
Much excitement is no longer what it was.
Programmed to consume pointless Comic book movies....
Real Cinema falls on deaf ears today.

It’s the explosion of options. There are so many more options for entertainment. I would add video games as well.
We used to go to the movies almost every week. A lot of people did so were all watching the same movies at the same time. So we talked about them more together and others went to see it and join in. And we didn’t move on to the new Netflix show that just dropped and binged and took our attention. Then we jump straight to the next one.
Same thing for TV. There are still great, great shows being made. 20 years ago they were only on 3 channels and options were limited so we watched the same stuff together. Then DVRs changed how we watched it at the same time. So you couldn’t spout the big punchline the next day at the office because half the group hadn’t seen it yet. And then stations like FX or USA started quality shows but also spread the viewership wider but less focused. Now streaming options have ignited that shift.
Video games are at a level now with stories equal to or surpassing traditional storytelling. And you get to be actively involved in the story. I’m playing a Japanese video game with an interesting murder mystery (and fun combat - game is Judgement if interested). More fun than most movies.
My take is there is probably better overall peaks today. But they are in a much bigger universe and get lost. Which means we talk about individual properties less so the social breakthroughs are lessened. And every now and then a Maverick does break through.
That’s why I love this board. I find so many shows I wouldn’t consider until a 2 or 3 page thread pops up. I’ll often tell my wife about trying a new show “let’s wait and see what TD says about it.”
Hell, that’s how I started Severance which is another aspect. There are so many more great niche options now like Severance. They’re not for everyone and won’t ever make it on CBS or ever be on the popular level of a Friends or Seinfeld. But I think that’s where the best media of today comes from.
Sorry for the rant. Had surgery yesterday and stuck on a couch ??

only 3 short seasons but not everything needs 50 episodes.

You know anybody who talks about 2017 Jumanji or its sequel and quotes either movie? No you don’t but people still quote and reference the original.
Hey, man, I appreciate your ability to totally miss any semblance of the point.

I could’ve posted about your hypocrisy but I was being nice

Cool, dude. So you decided not to post something supposedly/hopefully intelligent in favor of posting a comment that made it seem like you didn't understand an obvious point? On purpose?

that's a crazy year. now do 1996, it's pretty arse as far as blockbusters.
it did have Tin Cup and Swingers tho
From Dusk Til Dawn, Fargo, Jerry Maquire, Trainspotting, Mission: Impossible, Twister, Independence Day, Primal Fear, Scream, A Time to Kill, The Rock, Mars Attacks, Sleepers, Slingblade, Lonestar, The People vs. Larry Flint...not all of those are blockbusters (but a bunch were) but that is a great year for movies and would be quite the list if it came out now.

Would you agree or is it a commonly thought thing that we are in a bad time period for movies?

I haven’t watched either of those because 3 hours is a chore.
For Killers of the Flowermoon the period setting is the best part of the movie. They really nailed that aspect of it.

Most movies are complete garbage today. I mean how many comic book movies can you make ? Movies used to have story lines, novel concept today.

I used to love going to the movies. I watch them in a theater about as often as I watch the NFL now.

Oppenheimer
Oppenheimer isn’t my favorite Nolan movie or my favorite movie of 2023, but it was fantastic by every metric. Ridiculous to include it.
Great period piece movie.
