Filmed in 1989. A look into the future of the year 2015.
They figured on lots of hovering vehicles and faxes were the shite but they weren’t counting on the internet or smart phones.
An interesting watch now that we are 6 years past that “glimpse into the future”.

2 other questions I have after catching some of the first BTTF for the hundreth time:

-In 1955 before the big climax when marty heads back, the timer on the dash board goes off and the car isn't working. It takes about 10 seconds before he hits the wheel and it starts and he takes off. With as precise as Doc is it seems strange that he'd have the timer set to go off at a specific time, Marty be late, but still hit the wire the exact moment the lightning strikes.

-This is probably one of those time loop "which came first" things that always makes my brain hurt in time travel movies, but I wonder when and how doc and marty meet in present day. We see from teh very beginning of the film that they're pals and marty even spends time at doc's place. They obviously know each other and are friends. The first time we see them "officially" meet is when marty goes back to 1955 and looks doc up, and convinces him he knows him bc of the flux capacitor idea. So anyway all is well, marty goes back to 1985, and life is good. So when do they meet up again after marty takes off from 1955? If marty is a high school senior (18ish) in 1985 he would have born around 1967. So from 1955 til then doc is just going on about his life living like normal. But obviously at some point they reconnect...when and how would that go? Obviously not when marty is a baby so let's say he's a teenager, maybe even the early 80s. Does doc just approach him and be like "hey marty, you don't know me but in a few years I'm going to build a time machine and send you back in time where I'll meet you for the first time, although this is the first time you're actually meeting me. I promise we're friends though just take my word for it. Anyways you wanna hang out at my place before school sometimes?"

Marty could've been helping out Doc for a couple years as a part time job.

One of Alan Silvestri‘s best work. And he’s had a lot of best works.

The 13-year-old kid laughs at us whenever we watch BTTF2. “That’s not the future. I was eight years old then.” I guess it’s all relative. Like time travel. Great Scott.

Well, there's also this.

BACK TO THE FUTURE predicts 9/11

Be wary, dear traveler, for once you've received this knowledge, there will be no tuning back.

Lol yeah - the definition of that picture and picture was pretty shite compared to real life. At least we got that going for us.

This educational short was filmed in 1969 and was supposed to give us a look at what 1999 would look like. They should have titled it "A look at 2019", but it's surprisingly accurate on a lot of the predictions.

Keep in mind that it came out 20 years before BTTF 2 did.

And yeah, that's Wink Martindale.

Year 1999 A.D.

That kind of vision (the Jetsons and many 60s television/film projects looking forward to the 1990s and 2000s fall into this category as well) is sort of our generations flavor of Steampunk. "Hoverpunk"?

I think Wink is in relatively good shape considering he's pushing 90.

ETA: That kid, Kerry MacLane, is in the Metallica Video for One (because he was in Johnny Got His Gun with Jason Robards and Timothy Bottoms.)

Wow. Now that you mention it, I can totally see it.

The Rifftrax commentary on this short is great. But it was pretty interesting to watch, on it's own.

Until cars are driven completely by AI, you're not going to get flying cars.

A fender bender while flying would be catastrophic.

To be fair... their generation(s) saw humans go from not being able to fly at all to landing on the moon in about 7 decades. That’s an incredible pace.

If the Cold War continued to focus on the space race or if the US continued to invest in it as it did during those first Cold War decades there’s no telling how advanced it would be. Not saying it would look anything like the Jetsons but we would be way further along.
