To me that is a big con to a movie if you have to watch it in 3D in a movie theater to get the "full experience".

I agree, but this is what movies are slowly turning into.

And why would anyone consider it a con if that's what the movie was designed around in the first place? I would consider "My Bloody Valentine 3D" a con, but not something this high budget with full intentions of being a blockbuster and a visual effects showcase.

I will go check it out this weekend. With things I've seen online and the making of special, this movie has that same cool factor that The Matrix had with bullet time, and 300 with the comic book cinematography. I hope it doesn't disappoint.

I didn't mean con as in you will be tricked or fooled. I meant it in terms of "pros and cons".

Dances With Wolves meets Ferngully meets Gremlins 2: the new batch meets Heavyweights meets Surf Ninjas............that actually sounds pretty awesome.

With that said, James Cameron knows action so it should be a good action flick. For those talking Oscar for this movie though, they need to STFU.

It won't win it, but I think it will be nominated solely for the technical aspects of the film. Keep in mind that this year there are 10 nominees. If it was back to 5, then from what I've heard so far about the film, I doubt it would be nominated for Best Picture.

If Cameron just wanted to cash in on 3-D, he could have made it much cheaper and actually made money off of it. This 3-D entrance fee is really just to break even. Cameron isn't ripping us off for this 3-D experience.

But I can tell what should and shouldn't be "considered" for Best Picture Oscar from a preview.

No it's Dances with Smurfs meets Fern gully. It will be typical Hollywood. Corporation/Man(Alis: USA) bad. Forest dwelling hippies good.

It seems that everyone is forgetting that the selling point of the movie is not just the CGI, but the 3D experience

it still looks like a fricking cartoon

no matter how you slice it, the visuals of this movie are fricked in this regard

it requires a willing suspension of disbelief that i am not willing to give a movie that tries to be serious (or live action)

SlowFlowPro, I have to ask: what do you hate about cartoons? Watch Looney Tunes and come back and tell me that cartoons are terrible.

live action is live action

this movie is supposed to be a live action movie with CGI. well it looks like a fricking cartoon

if your CGI doesn't look real, then it's bad CGI

*ETA: and this movie has a shite ton of CGI in it

And do you really want them to reveal the entire plot in the trailer?

This movie looks awful! I don't know how you cannot surmise exactly what will happen in this movie, the trailer gives away EVERYTHING. I really hope this movie tanks... but it prob won't. This is because Americans are stupid and think expensive (and yes retarded looking) CGI = great movie.

Plot summary:
Humans find planet with expensive mineral. Local inhabitants live where the minerals are. Humans are willing to do anything to get to it. Humans send in humans in disguise to gain their trust and destroy them from the inside. Human in disguise falls in love and feels sorry for locals, and then changes sides which he is fighting for. Large fighting ensues... locals win in the end win and love conquers all. Blah blah blah...

the funny part is that you'll hear good things about it and end up watching it and liking it.

I'm not a fan of over the top CGI movies either, but I still don't get why you'd openly root for a movie to suck.

this movie, if successful, will end up changing the action/sci fi genre, at least for a few years

remember how every movie used bullet time after matrix? it will be that, times about 10
