This has been one of the most underrated films of the past 5 years. It actually lost money but I think it was due to the way it was released...about two years after filming was completed.

I thought the performances by Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck were phenomenal to say the least. Cinematography was praised and nominated for many awards...which I thought was spectacular (half the time it was like you were looking at an old photograph through a glass prism).

Without a doubt it is one of the best ten movies I've ever seen but it's more of a genre flick. You can't do much to distort history but I thought it was one of the best case studies of two characters we've witnessed on screen in years.

Very disappointed it wasn't bigger but still a masterpiece in my opinion.

I liked it but it should have been cut by at least half an hour

More like one of the most overrated. Reduced the story to some latent unrequited bromance between James and Ford. Terrible narration and terrible action scenes.

I disagree. It was long but I thought it was justified.

Narration I thought was fine. If you want to say the action scenes were not good that's opinion. I thought it was more realistic in its action scenes more than anything. Portrayed them as regular men doing crime. Nothing fancy.

I agree with pretty much everything you said outside of it not being one of my top ten movies of all time. It was top ten on my 2000's list though.
Most people around here like it.
I actually saw it in the theatres the night it opened, it was only at the theatre for three days where i'm at, and I might have been the only person that went the entire weekend

Did y'all see the Yogi Bear alternate ending spoof of Assassination of Jesse James on WWTDD the other day, good stuff.

In my opinion, the talks were justified to show the transition from "Hero" to "Regular Man" in Robert Ford's eyes. More like a "fall from grace" for his childhood hero, even though it was merely in his eyes.

Kind of like waking up one day and realizing Santa Clause isn't real...except you're 20 years old. In that respect, I thought it was phenomenal...it kind of was like an awakening to the world for Ford. Even more so after he killed James...his spiral down was an intriguing one. He still wanted the fame of Jesse James but realized he'd never be able to obtain it.

A favorite line from the movie from James to Ford: "I can't figure out if you want to be like me or you want to be me."

Well, I'm all about character studies in literature and film. This movie was one of the few movies in the past ten years that has done this.

The exception being There Will Be Blood...which is a whole different topic all together. People hated it for the same reasons they list here but those two movies were MASTERPIECES in my honest opinion. Some of the best the 2000s has had to offer...

Sad part is most people were too god damn stupid to realize what they were.
