I think your cynicism is warranted. The people that run the business really don't want a change to the status quo. They don't want to have to adapt.

Which is something I don't get. They throw shows out there every year with a terrible success rate. They cancel shows with promise. They move shows arouns so they can never get a foothold on a timeslot.

With so many things not working, you'd think they'd be willing to start trying new things that might work. But instead they keep repeating the same formulas over and over again hoping something new turns up.

I've not liked the first two episodes particularly much, but I'm not going to call it terrible.

It's definitely not that; it might be too funny, if that makes sense. Too much packed into the first two episodes.

Hopefully it's just a set up for the rest of the season. But I had planned on watching them in about two days...after the first two episodes, I decided I needed to stretch that to two weeks, or so.

I get why people don't like it, though.

But I wonder how many people followed Mitch Hurwitz' advice on not binge watching the show and taking their time with it.

where was this?

i can tell you, after being disappointed with the first three episodes i watched the entire series and thought it was hilarious

A big reason I'm being patient.

First two episodes you are still getting used to the format...thus its confusing which makes it seem like its not as funny.

Havent seen for myself yet but i would bet a lot of money that those episodes will be 100 times funnier on the rewatch because youre already adjusted to the format (which is pretty drastically different than the original run in many ways)

im cynical though

an interesting thing to do would be to look at where the bad reviews came from and what companies own the media that published them.

I wouldn't be shocked if many of the bad reviews were from NewsCorp owned entities.

I wouldn't say 'not as funny.' I laughed a good bit. But it felt overwhelming...like riding a roller coaster for 30 minutes instead of 3 minutes.

Might take some getting used to, or maybe the series just needs to be stretched out.

It's still genius, and the stuff that bothers me is that the episodes are too funny, too smart, and that it's hard to digest at times.

I know rewatches will be even funnier. Just having trouble getting through the first watch.

And again i emphasize that that feeling you have right now goes away sometime between episode 4-6. And then it feels like home

I started it last night and watched the first four episodes. After the first one I was a little unsure, but once I got in to the new groove and style I really started enjoying it.

if your a old school fan, i think you'll like it regardless

even people that were less than open minded we're saying, "okay, this is awesome.." by episode 7/8

all i can say is, if you don't get it.. you just don't get it

The format is insane and everything takes a while to start tying together. When you are watching the first half or so of the season, you think events are stand alone but they are not. Other characters tie into those scenes but you are not shown that until the second half of the season.

It's brilliant.

Trying to stay spoiler free but as an example, if you have watched the first few eps you see the feet of the person GOB was with and you see Michael's reaction but get no pay off. Frustrating at the time but the pay off comes late in the series.

Tons of stuff like that.

They also showed scenes at one part of the season that didn't seem like much and then later form another POV and extend the scene a lot which made both the present scene and the original one a lot funnier

That's most true with Buster's ep next to last. He was just kinda bumped into through a lot of the season then they pay off on that.

I've seen a ton of ppl say it will be better on the rewatch like that's going to be the norm. You've gotta realize that the majority of ppl aren't going to watch this 5 times and post on message boards about it.

I think the new episode has been great sans the first 3 episodes which were all set up. I'm on 11 I think

I've seen them all. Some of them are great. Some of them are dreadful. I can see why people are at least a little underwhelmed.
