Anyone watch Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol on Peacock?
Posted by RollTide1987 on 9/17/21 at 6:13 am87
I started watching it but turned it off almost immediately when the show equated the Nazi's hijacking of the swastika with American conservative's "hijacking" of the Gadsden Flag ("Don't Tread on Me") in the first two minutes.

I think I read this book but I don't remember.
I enjoyed the first 2 movie adaptations of Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons. But, Inferno was awful and has given me really low expectations for this new one.

Didn’t know they even were making this.
I read it when it came out but i guess it got lost in the movie making shuffle because it got skipped over for Inferno.

DVC sucked as a movie to me. AAD Was pretty good.
Both are examples of something I would have loved to see as a streaming series. Packing really good stories from books a lot of people have read into 90 minutes is just hard to do.

Why is it that when something is true and supported by facts people don't want to hear it! Because it said something that made you uncomfortable LOL! That's week sauce.
Are all people who fly the Gadsden Flag right wing nut jobs of course not.
Have some Right Wing lunatics' hijacked it and used it as a symbol! You cant argue that this is not true.
Sometime I swear conservatives are more whiney and thin skinned than the little Liberal SJW's

I have a hard time with some movies made around that time, 2006.
The interesting subject matter (even though it is pretty much fiction) allows me to look past its flaws as a movie. But, I find Angels & Demons to be way more rewatchable and more interesting.

All right, think this through. The Gadsden Flag was literally created during the American Revolution. It is an American icon. Americans today are flying it in order to celebrate their American heritage.
The swastika was co-opted from a foreign culture and placed in a position of prominence within a society that was attempting to create a New Order.
One celebrates the past, and one strives to eliminate the past. In many ways, polar opposites.

Does anyone have a Cliff's on what the Lost Symbol is or represents? I never read that one...I kind of lost interest after Inferno, as well.

When I see it I think of the 2010's Tea Party and the Jan. 6 Trumpers. In both cases it was used to tie new agendas with historical events in an attempt to legitimize their current policies/actions.
It's not Naziam, but usually when you see the Yellow Gadsden the person flying it has agendas other than celebrating history.

Plan to watch it this weekend. I remember loving it when I read it like 10 years ago, but honestly forgot a lot of plot details other than numerology plays a really big part.

People say this but I recall the movie tracking the book pretty faithfully.

Ah yes the past when everything was so much better! So much better that if we return to the good ole days and went back to how it used to be, we wouldn't be able to even be in this forum disagreeing with each other.

The American flag has been hijacked by hate groups in the past as well.
The Gadsden Flag has had its fair share of lunatics underneath it, but remember what my OP was arguing: the show was equating Nazism with the Tea Party and 1/6. Those groups are in no way equitable. One group started a global conflagration in the name of racial ideology that ended up killing tens of millions of people. The other broke some glass inside the Capitol Building, took a few selfies, and stole the Speaker of the House's podium.

DVC was 149 minutes and A&D was 138.

They skipped it due to the be similar to National Treasure in some of the symbols and such.
Inferno was an OUTSTANDING book. The movie messed it up.

So a few cops get beat up along he way. You've got to break some eggs to take a few selfies.
