I’m not talking “Star Wars” or anything, I’m talking about movies that deal with mankind and outer space, and no aliens.

My favorite movie of all times is “The Right Stuff”. I have it on dvr and listen to it at least once a week as I fall asleep.

Other movies in this genre, “Apollo 13”, “The Martian”, “Intersellar”, “Space Cowboys”, “Armageddon”, “Gravity”, and “Passengers”, I can watch over and over (Armageddon is about beat to death tho, it’s on about twice a week it seems).

I have never seen “2001:A Space Odyssey”. I need to see it.

A lot of people hated “Gravity”. I like it a lot. I like the “man vs space” story.

This is an absolute must see if you're a fan of space movies or just movies in general. It set the standard for space movies. Check out Solaris too.

Outer Space? How about some "inner" space?

How can you like Space Movies and NOT seen 2001?

You will need to watch it a few times to "get it" but once you do understand "it", wow....

Most of the films on your list are good but I am a "Gravity" haters too...no offense.

Another "non" Alien Space Movie would be "Silent Running" with Bruce Dern..

"Moonraker"...James Bond in Space

"Star Trek: The Motion Picture"...The "Alien" was created by mankind...

Just make sure it's the original Russian film not the Clooney remake.

A few others worth a watch:

Outland
Silent Running
Capricorn One
The Andromeda Strain

That's boring. Because it would be like reading a dissertation on the lost theorems of math if done remotely well.

Space is fricking boring without aliens...no one can hear you scream and all that jazz...don't forget to get your calculations right...we're going to move 2 degrees toward the sun for the next 20 minutes of the movie.

The best thing about the Right Stuff was the stuff on the ground...and kick arse fighter pilots like Chuck Yeager...not sitting in a tin-can having to pee waiting to launch for a 24 hour atmosphere orbit.

Or worse those movies where some panel is askew and they have to do a space-walk and for 20 minutes of the movie...the guy puts on his suit, the crew gives him instruction and he space walks, slips a few times like space is walking on slippery rocks or something...and then tightens a bolt...and floats back inside to the ship...and 20 minutes have passed in the movie and still no aliens. But bolt is secure. Time for Tang.

Forget space when there's nothing out there but Sandra Bullock hyperventilating to nobody but herself.

Give me the deep Oceans. That's another planet down there with living unseen things.

The Abyss, Leviathan, Below, Deep Star Six.

Lol what? I think watching/listening to my favorite movie once a week would quickly turn it in to my least favorite movie.

That is a good one. They have one scene where a guy exposed to space instantly freezes and then instantly evaporates when the sun hits him as he moves out of the shadow. Thought that was pretty impressive. Space movies don't really do justice to how cold space is.
