I watched the whole thing this weekend
SPOILERS (not really)
I really wish it had focused more on the US government, Indians, and Mormons than the woman and her son. I didn't really gaf about them.
Brigham Young and Bridger were soooooo good.

Skipped to the end of this thread but will come back and read it. Just finished episode 2. Holy crap is this good. Brutal as hell.
I knew about the Mormon history out West and this show is not kind to them. It shouldn't be. A bigger spotlight needs to be shown on their place in American West history.

A show just on Bridger would have been great. Kitsch was great too.
When I finished the last episode, I texted a friend not to watch it.
The cinematography was just distracting. How many minutes of the show did they just focus on Pratt's head wound that wasn't healing? Large bands of armed people in close proximity. Evidently no one (except the Shoshone one time) puts any guards around their camps.
The kid went from needing a leg brace, to traversing the wilderness without one, to his horse not being able to walk, to the horse then breaking the kid's leg so he limped worse than he did at the first of the series.
Someone mentioned watching a 2nd season. HOW WOULD THEY HAVE A SECOND SEASON???
In the end, it just seemed like Berg was trying too hard.

Pretty obvious... focus on the journey to California and introduce a bunch of new characters.
Doubt it would work well, though.

When the Mormons found him and brought him back to camp they told him his wife had been killed by the Indians. That’s why he was so eager to go and fight them
That's right, forgot that. Was hoping Abish might make it out alive but the moment she took off on horse I knew it was over for her. Kind of dumb on her part to join the fight seeing as she had zero fighting experience. Not sure what good she thought she was going to do.

When Issac cut it off of him, his mom tried to get him to put it back on. The kid replied, “I don’t need it. I’m not crippled.” That makes me think it’s only use was to disguise, or to get sympathy, etc.

I get you have complaints, but the reasons you mentioned aren't really things that would make the show not watchable. Beside the fact that the majority of people like it, the cinematography was actually pretty good to me. I can see how the filter they used would be distracting to some, the grey tints were pretty strong, but some people like that. Not sure why you wouldn't let that person decide unless you know yall have the exact same taste in cinematography

What's the issue here? The brace was obviously hindering him at first and just something he needed to break free from. You are happy for the kid that he has someone that finally tells him he's not a cripple and he can do without it to feeling terrible for the kid because he catches an awful break. Part of what makes the kids story tragic as well.

Just finished binging. Really enjoyed it. I'd like to see them make more seasons, but each season tackle a different story with different characters in the old west.
Two Moons was my favorite character.

We were in Utah several years ago on vacation. We left Zion National Park on our way to Bryce Canyon. We stopped in a little town at a dollar store to restock some road supplies. After getting what we needed, we decided to take a walk through the town to do some leg stretching after being in a car for so long. A woman from the store came running up behind us and told us that they appreciated giving their store some business, but we had to go. I asked we have to go? What is the problem? She replied that there was no problem just that you’re not one of us.

Just finished the series. Overall, liked it a lot. Would give a second season a shot if they do it

one of the best westerns i've watched in a while.
it was true to the history as well. and it wasn't "woke". it painted EVERYONE in a bad light. there were no real "good guys" in this story. the characters were really well developed and the script was pretty good.
bridger was definitely a favorite.

You had to be tuff as fricking nails back then. These people were fearless.

That was a great show, man that woman sure was lucky to end up with a fella that displayed that much patience with her. Good lord she was hard headed. Even my wife was saying just shut up and listen lady! Haha

It isn't going to be too friendly of a show to Mormons and Brigham Young.
I had always heard he was a shite person
I had always fancied myself a history dude but honestly had no idea how brutal the Mormons were in their expansion westward
But after watching this then reading more into it
He was the scum of the earth and is definitely burning in hell
