Potential spoilers in this post:

quote:

He started out as a clean guy with a homely jewish* wife

Ends up a frazzled corrupt broker divorcing a blonde supermodel.

No major changes?

my rebuttal:

quote:

He didn't start out with a strong moral compass and then go astray.

I disagree with your characterization. He never wrestled with the right or wrong thing to do by resisting easy opportunities. Immediately after things went bad the first time he jumped to another job in which he escalated the bad decisions and taught a bunch of more amateurish type brokers how to hustle people with penny stocks and then continued to increase the scale but not nature of his own misbehavior.

This wasn't character development or the corruption of a once ethical individual (as the original Wall Street with Charlie Sheen and Michael Douglas portrayed). Leo's character never had the illusion that what he was doing was helping anyone but himself. He simply did what he did because he profited. He twice could have chosen another avenue for his career and twice jumped back into the fray headfirst.

You see a quick shot of Amy's left boob. If you blink, you would have missed it.

WoWS is a teenage boy's wet dream. If this was the 70's it would be getting heavy play at the drive-in.
Plenty of tits and jokes about dicks and drugs.

The story is laughably bad and has been told many times before and in better movies (guy works his way up from nothing, becomes ridiculously successful, then loses it all). Steve Martin did a better job with it in The Jerk.

American Hustle is a better movie on every level (except for the dick jokes).

And there is a strip club scene where Adams gets naked (for those of you that have to have tits in a movie for you to enjoy it).

Wolf of Wall Street is about a psychopath why would expect much character development.

Seriously one of the worst hyped movies I've seen in a while, I reallydon't understand how anybody can defend it. I grant that it has cool costume design and good acting from Bail, but the story just blows.

It was too obvious. You could see what was going to happen from miles away

Belfort goes from naive kid to cutthroat broker/schemer over the course of the film.
More like over the course of the first five minutes of the film. The movie went out of its way to break conventions and show his refusal to change. You never got the impression he regretted a single thing he did. I don't think many people really 'got' wow. Somebody above said it was a movie that had been made over and over. I thought it was one of the most unique and bold movies I've ever seen.

I went to see it in the theaters and about 45 minutes in there was a massive power outage and we had to leave. There was very little in that part of the movie to get too excited about but I assumed it was about to get rolling.

Personally I like American Hustle better than Wolf of Wall Street. But neither we're amazing films or favorites for me.

eta: Hell, Rush was probably better than both of them.

I've seen them both. I thought they were both horrible movies in my opinion.

WoWs was a pain to sit through. It was just regurgitated crap with an awesome naked chick.

Watched them on back to back nights. WoWS over American Hustle any day, but neither were really good.

And I agree witht the guy above Rush was better than both films.
