That is how you keep people from going to the theater.

But can you blame them? They were basically put out of business for 2 years. Im sure these companies are struggling just to not sink. The Batman is only the 2nd real crowd draw since 2019

Maybe i don't go to the movies very often anymore, but is this really a big problem for you that you want to pay more?

I don’t go to theater but 4 or 5 times a year. That’s why I don’t mind paying more.

Last time I went to a regular theater was several years back for a Star Wars and it was miserable. Uncomfortable seats with people talking and clapping during the movie. Very distracting.

Live in Houston now and they have a theater that has 2 person booths with leather recliners. They give you a pillow an blanket for the show. Fresh hot popcorn right when the movie starts. You can order bottles of wine or cocktails. It’s great. Wife and I get there 30 minutes before the movie starts to hang out and drink.

So yeah, I’d spend more money for that.

Apparently they are looking for more people to demand movies go directly to streaming services on day and date of release.

Nope. It already costs about $60 for my wife and I to attend a movie and get popcorn, and that's at an AMC that doesn't even offer the seats with fold down tables and food delivery to your seat.

Going to the movies is only marginally worth what they're charging now. It isn't worth more.

ETA: You're response to this is why we are where we are at this moment in time. Not just with movies, but with everything. This is the mindset that is nickel-and-dimeing the middle class into the lower class.

I’ve never understood this. It’s not like the theater is pulling a bait and switch. We all know that they serve shitty overpriced food. Put that $30 towards a nice big restaurant meal before the movie. Keep a bag of WallMart Snickers in the pantry to bring to movies.

And for God’s sake, if you go to AMC, get an A-List membership. If you see one movie a month in Dolby or IMAX you break even.

I haven't watched more than 2 movies a year in the theater for 20 years.

Because The Batman was one of the movies I was interested in seeing in the theater. Are you the MTV hall monitor?

Just got an email from Cinemark saying the member price is going up $1 to $10 ?

With that you get a free movie ticket a month (plus rewards as you spend) and %20 concessions. Unused tickets roll over too. Me and the wife have been to the theatre a handful of times over the past couple of months and bought just a normal amount of concessions each time. When I got Batman tickets last night, all four of the tickets were free because of the reward points earned up.

The Cinemark here is 10x nicer than the AMC too. It's got the big lounge chairs, you can have the drinks and stuff brought to you in your seat and it serves alcohol. If you go to the theatre even a little bit, the Cinemark membership is worth it.

You can even save a couple bucks if you want by getting a yearly subscription.
