That your argument is fricking dumb.

More efficient, cheaper technologies come along all the time. It’s the same thing with AI just to a much higher degree. Are we all supposed to forego a cheaper more efficient energy source because there’s still coal and people can mine it and have jobs?

Except that wasn't my argument.

The previous person said "the only people complaining are the ones directly affected." So I asked if they were okay with this because it's only Hollywood workers, and if the same were applied to other industries would they also be okay with it?

I'll spell it out more succinctly next time.

quote:

The thing about AI it seems people don’t understand is it’s here and progressing at breakneck speed. I realize some of you would like the government to put regulations on it so people can keep their jobs, but do you think China is going to do that as well? Whatever country decides to do that is screwing themselves over.

Trying to be the fastest to run head first into a mountain is hardly a good idea.

quote:

When China is sending their kung fu robots over here to beat our asses and turn us into AI food, I hope you can be satisfied in your moral victory that we didn’t put Hollywood out of their jobs

And you said my argument was dumb.

Quantum computing is where my worries over China overtaking us lie. NIST has it in place to phase out current encryption methods in favor of quantum encryption by 2030; so long as China doesn't crack the quantum computing to break RSA 2048-bit encryption before then, cool; if not, then AI making shitting videos will be the least of anyone's worries.

Right now AI is a money sink. That's the biggest problem when trying to claim it'll be different from Hollywood's issue of being controlled by a few major studios; AI is so expensive and losing money to the point that AI startups simply will not survive. It'll be a small number of companies with AI products controlling the entire market. You think Disney owning half the IPs is bad? Wait until the Terms and Conditions on that AI platform you use includes ownership of everything you create.

AI is not some high-speed train to a Star Trek-like future; it's the end of human innovation. There's a reason nearly every sci-fi novel indicates that AI, without some safeguards (like in I, Robot), implies it's a bad idea.

AI isn’t some godsend to free Hollywood from wokeness; it is the ultimate form of fat, lazy, soulless creation.

That is so short-sighted. I'm sure thespians said the same thing about the moving pictures when it first came out. It will still take a very skilled person to create a shot and a consistent, cohesive, and compelling narrative. Now that will be open to many more artists. I just don't get all this stanning for the TV/Movie industry that has repeatedly shown it sucks over the past 20 years without barely any new creative direction and the rise of preaching agendas in the media. This is going to be a great way to tell Hollywood, adapt or die. This is literally the foundation of capitalism.

quote:

Because it was a lot easier to let someone else learn the skills, then someone else write the code to learn from those people, instead of putting in any of the work themselves.

Are you telling me that every single person who uses technology is lazy because they can't code the technology they use? And why are we crying for coders and tech giants who are literally making money hand over fist?

Didn’t you say earlier that it could help with a cure for cancer?

Do you want Hollywood to keep their jobs and productions to stay expensive?

We’ve seen for the past 25 years that SFX in movies hasn’t really gotten that much better and really has looked worse in some respects. CG everything could be argued has made productions lazier and a lot worse looking than back when there were actual practical effects and real stunts. For example, they’ve not been able to make things look much better than 25 years ago when you had Neo fighting 100 Agent Smiths, the spider man trilogy and Legolas hopping around on a cave troll. Furiosa looked worse than Fury Road. AI can help with a lot of that. You really telling me some of the action scenes you’ve seen from seedance don’t look better than a lot of what we’ve seen from Hollywood the past 15 years? CG blood everywhere looking like shite instead of using squibs anymore. Hell even in 2025 we got the Derry show that had some retarded looking scenes despite it overall being a pretty fun show.

I don’t see anyone advocating AI writing entire scripts. If they do you’ll have your points with “soulless slop.” See what happened with Stranger Things season 5. What I’m saying is things like Rings of Power. Was anyone asking for that when it got announced that Amazon bought the rights? I’m talking about what we got, not what we thought we would get. We had tons of stories written by Tolkien that could’ve been put to film. Instead we got what we did. Bastardized versions of what Tolkien wrote to send a message. That’s just one example. There are so many other properties out there that could be made into something incredible but won’t because it just hasn’t been realistic for studios to invest so much into it, or they don’t have the correct message. Now there won’t be such a barrier.

The big studios better be looking into how to use these new tools or they will get left behind by ones that start to adapt to it

Imagine supporting AI because you’re afraid China will send robots here to kill us

The end goal is for AI to do everything so corporations don't have to pay anyone a dime.

Studios can and do when they are willing to spend the time and money to do it. The reason it's gotten "worse" it b/c all the studios are run by corrupt Wall Street frick bois who only give a shite about profit and have a "this is good enough" mentality when looking for every little way to cut costs in order to boost their bonuses. Art is being ruined b/c studios are no longer controlled by people who actually give a shite about the long term outlook of the studio's life. They only care about juicing short term profits.

I don’t see how that’s going to be possible. If it gets to a point where an AI can do that on its own, without any direction from a human, it won’t give a shite about creating a movie to entertain humans unless some matrix situation happens.

Someone will always have to be around to tell it a story to make a movie from.

We agree on everything else you said

AI slop (which will keep getting better and better) > whatever trash we're currently getting

It is what it is. Hollywood and entertainment as a whole deserve this outcome
