This.
Also builds in a core albeit relatively small audience for his next venture.

Yeah it was not egregious. Seems like an excuse for Disney to get rid of a guy or a show they don’t want to support anymore.

I feel like Kirk would be pissed off about most, if not all, of the cancellations.

Don’t feel sorry for Kimmel. That guy is a clown.
Feel sorry for a country that touts free speech but has politicians tell people they should cancel others for expressing that speech. I don’t know how that doesn’t have a chilling effect on speech.
We are not far away from the UK right now and I think we can all agree that that place is descending into speech based chaos

Are you free to walk into your employers office and tell them to frick off?

• Nexstar wants to acquire the Tegna station group and is waiting on FCC approval.
• The FCC Chair put the word out that if broadcast companies took action against Kimmel, the FCC might not have "additional work ahead" on the topic.
• Nexstar ran to take Kimmel off of the air in order to gain favor with Trump's FCC.
• Sinclair station group (who is also trying to get the Tegna group) jumped to follow suit, upping their bet with a "We'll replace Kimmel with a Kirk Tribute" promise.
• Facing two of their largest broadcast distributors pulling their content, Disney made the decision to suspend Kimmel's show indefinitely.
There is no "low ratings/high production cost" excuse as there was with Colbert. This is companies paying tribute to the FCC in order to expand their footprint and reduce their competition. Look for more of this as the FCC holds out the carrot to corporations looking to consolidate network affiliates so that major markets have fewer choices for local and regional news.

Kimmel said the shooter was maga.
That’s undeniable.
I & others have clearly posted his quote. It’s what got him removed from the network.

That’s not what happened and completely beside the point and if you can’t see that, I don’t know what to tell you.
JD Vance said to call people’s employers to get them fired if they mocked Charlie Kirk’s death as a “defense of civility.”
And we can all agree that mocking someone’s death is horrendous and shouldn’t be done, but there’s too much nuance to get into with speech like this to take a meat cleaver to someone for speaking against Charlie Kirk.
I saw one video where a kid mocked Charlie getting shot. It was awful. He pantomimed getting hit in the neck and collapsing. But he was in the middle of a mass demonstration in favor of Kirk and perhaps he was trying to use shock to convey his own belief that having a mass demonstration for the man was dumb. Who knows? Even in such a terrible scenario, there is nuance.
Vance would have that kid removed from campus. That is the Vice President saying to chill free speech by reporting people to employers in a form of Neo-McCarthyism that should be frightening to all free speech advocates, and I think Charlie Kirk would agree that that’s scary.
As for Kimmel, he said Trump’s reaction to Charlie’s death was that of a four year old reacting to his goldfish dying and yet the media is hyping up Trump’s relationship with Kirk as if they were like father and son. It’s a dig at Trump’s seeming reaction, not at Kirk or his killing. And Kimmel was fired for that? Seems like it was a convenient excuse to get rid of him because Nexstar and Disney didn’t want him around anymore. We will see.

I feel sorry for the country that has such a high percentage of it celebrating a murder of someone who spoke. Or even if they just made light of the situation. That’s what I’m sorry for.

Yeah, it’s pretty simple. Jimmy signed a contract. Jimmy agreed to adhere to certain things. Let Jimmy go out and try the private sector if he doesn’t wanna answer to anybody. Jimmy’s not the one with the freedom here. ABC is. Jimmy needs to go out and be private if he wants that freedom.

I do think it’s deniable if you take it word for word. “They’re looking for any way to prove he isn’t like them” does not mean he is one of them.
Again, it’s a moronic thing to say, and it might be something that someone could assume off it, but he did not actually say the shooter was MAGA.

Says this.
quote:
“They’re looking for any way to prove he isn’t like them” does not mean he is one of them.
Then proceeds to not take it word for word and attempts to paraphrase it.

“Desperately trying to characterize him as anything other than one of them” does imply he’s saying the shooter was MAGA, but it obviously does not say it outright.

If I had said in my last post that you are trying to to do anything other than quote Kimmel directly, would I be implying you weren't quoting him directly or would I be saying you didn't quote him directly?
