Bout time, hasn't been funny since The Man Show
I will expand on this and say that if he was removed because of FCC threat to block an acquisition it isnt the same as being fired for low ratings/distasteful comments.
quote:
The pressure was not coming from advertisers. The FCC chairman went on a podcast and threatened to pull broadcast licenses from ABC affiliates owned by local station groups like Nexstar and Sinclair. Nexstar was the first to say they would pre-empt Kimmel until further notice on the ABC affiliates they own. It’s worth noting that Nexstar is currently in the process of buying another local station group for about $6 billion, which is subject to approval by the FCC.

This is the second big name late night talk show host to get the axe after making comments that angered the Trump administration.
Man, he knew he was going to be fired soon anyway.. His rating were total shite and the writing was on the wall after the other clown got canned.
I guess he thought it would be better going out trying to be some kind of martyr than to be fired for low ratings
Absolutely New anything that he said that was borderline would get him fired

Maybe I’m giving way too charitable of a reading of this to Kimmel, but I didn’t think he was calling the kid MAGA, but saying that everyone was going out of their way before anything had come out of saying he was a liberal.
It was a ridiculous comment of him to say that IMO, but I don’t think it’s entirely inaccurate to say that people were trying to prove it was not one of them (many many members of the left were doing the exact same thing).
It’s been pointed out, but the big difference to me between this cancellation and things like Roseanne is the involvement of the FCC which seems like a shaky road to go down. If the network wants to cancel him, that’s entirely understandable and they have every right to do that. I just don’t think they should be doing it at the FCC Chair’s request.

Then what IS your point?
That Kimmel’s words, even though they were shite, don’t mean what you said - that he’s saying that the shooter was MAGA. Can they be interpreted that way if you take into context Kimmel’s history about how he talks about Trump supporters? Sure. But it’s not some absolute truth that you have been pushing. It has been repeated several times in this thread that if his words are taken at face value, they mean that he thinks it is very low of Trump supporters to be focused on pointing the finger immediately in the immediate wake of the tragedy. Again, I don’t agree with his statement, one he himself has been guilty of over and over.
My ultimate point was that either way you interpret what he says, makes him look like a piece of shite. You are choosing an ant mound to die on instead of THE hill.

He has been dropping in ratings for years now because of things he has been lying about and just saying to get clips. Its about time he gets the consequences, this just made it easier for the network to finally end his show.

Late night ratings are just bad. They are looking for any excuse and being insensitive/hateful about an assassination that half the population is very upset about was an easy trigger pull.

That's fricking it? Good fricking God people want to talk about cancel culture than celebrate shite like this.
I don't want to hear anyone celebrating this ever whine or bitch about cancel culture ever again.
Y'all don't despise it y'all just don't like when it happens to your side
If this were actually cancel culture, i would agree with you.
"Cancel Culture" is cancelling someone for something that is objectively true. Examples:
- "Men can not be women."
- "Black men statistically commit more crime than any other segment of the population."
Kimmel was fired for lying and saying something untrue. And being an a-hole.
They are not the same.

Everyone from Sinclair to Disney an array of other reports ALL conclude his words to mean exactly that.
He’s in no way deserving of any grace or leeway.
For the life of me, I cannot grasp what you’re talking about. He said what he said. It’s self evident what he meant.

Yeah it is. Maga was looking for anyone and everyone to blame for Kirk's death to score political points, besides of course their own.
Trans, late night hosts, mainstream media, and even Israel all were blamed by members of MAGA.
It isnt like MAGA is only blaming Tyler Robinson.

It’s not cancel culture - this is accountability.
He purposely and blatantly put out an untruth this week - to blame MAGA for CK’s death. Simple as that.
Is that a fireable offense to you?

Yep. If they really wanted to keep him they would have blamed this on some low level staff writer and had Kimmel apologize. I think they wanted out of late night and this gave them cover to do it. Especially since CBS has already made the decision to leave late night.

You can scream into the void all you want, but your fairy tale world is done. People like you cheered on ABC firing Chris Harrison, but now want to cry about Jimmy Kimmel.
You created this environment. You bought the ticket, now you get to take the ride. No more rules for one side and no rules for the other. Nobody gets cancelled or everyone gets cancelled.

I certainly didnt cheer over Chris Harrison being fired, because Ive never heard of him. Im also not crying over Jimmy Kimmel being fired.

I stated when the last one was fired that late night is dead.
They will all be offloaded soon enough.

It wasn’t a “death”. He was assassinated in cold blood. In front of his wife and kids.
. And where is your proof? How was MAGA blaming anyone and everyone for this? We knew pretty early on. It was a short list.

We weren’t the ones celebrating and posting mocking videos when Joe got cancer. When Diane Feinstein passed away. No where near it. We weren’t the one shouting down a moment of silence in Congress.
Probably the most significant and shattering murder in the last 50 years and you’re damn right it’s political. Because the killer and all his subhuman supporters said so.

Yeah. Even. Individuals who are off on their own delusional tangents. So what? Does Keith Olbermann speak for the left?
The lack of self-awareness and empathy of those on the left and even you in this thread, so insufferably determined to not give an inch even when it’s clear as day everyone sees what is going on.
You would do very well to reassess your perspective.

There is no part of that statement that is untrue. If someone repeating facts about you puts you in a bad light, you've set yourself up for the implication.
He purposely and blatantly put out an untruth this week - to blame MAGA for CK’s death.
There was no outcry when Kimmel said it three days ago. No thread on the poli-board, no statement from the White House. But now that you have the FCC Chair telling station groups and networks what they need to do to get in the good favor of the government, Kimmel's simple set-up for a joke is suddenly the shot heard around the world.

Ive called it out for years. Hateful rhetoric over the past decade+ has only increased. I think I see more of that from you guys on the left and the right than I see from people like me that dont even vote for democrats or Republicans. They are playing you all like a fiddle.
Afting like one side owns hateful rhetoric is just dishonest. Both sides have been pushing it.
I dont hate the people. I hate the leaders yall are choosing to follow because you are controlled by fear (of the other side winning.)

False logic. All mainstream media outside of Fox News also reported that Trump said there were "very fine people on both sides" about Charlottesville. That doesn't mean it's accurate or true. There's no need to appeal to authority figures.

Jesus man, I've explicitly said that multiple times. Me saying that his words meant something else that was despicable also isn't giving him "grace."

You've been asked multiple times by Roaad and others to point out, in Kimmel's words, where he said that the shooter was Maga. You have not been able to do it, and have only been able to show that it was implied. It's really not that hard to grasp, and for the life of me, I don't understand why you can't do it. It's a futile effort to continue discussing, obviously.

Um. There was. You are just so wrong here. You are completely blind to it, like many people are on the left when it comes to this. Why can’t you just say that you lost the argument? I don’t get it.

Jimmy saw a losing battle in the media, a losing battle in his ratings, and tried to go out with some shock value to make himself important. That’s all this was. And in doing so, he incited false information and hate. Jimmy knew this could happen. Just like everybody says Charlie Kirk knew this could happen. But we’re supposed to feel sorry for Jimmy? For the people paying him pulling out? frick that motherfricker.
