The first comment pretty much sums up what I think this will be:

I'm curious about seeing anything "millennial" in black & white photography, academy ratio, a 400 year-old play, homage to movies made in the 40s and 50s, and a cast full of 65 year-olds.

If this screams "young" to you, are you like 125 years old?

Overt nods to both the 1940s version directed by Orson Welles and the 150s adaptation from Akira Kurosawa

Good catch. I went back and watched the original trailer for the Orson Wells film and there are a lot of similarities, from the black and white format and set design down to Lady Macbeth's costume and hairstyle.

I mean, it’s Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand leading one of the most iconic stories of all time, directed by a renowned director and put out by an exciting distributor. I don’t know what there is to not be excited about here.

Sure A24 can slide towards being pretentious, and I don’t love all of their films, but I have never been uninterested while watching one.

I agree. Macbeth is one of my favorite of Shakespeare's works. Both Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand are great actors, so I'm curious to see how they tackle the roles. My only concerns are that they are a bit on the older side and whether or not Joel Coen can bring anything new to the story that elevates it.

Justin Kurzel's version met with mixed reviews, but at least he tried to go at the story from a different perspective, in that the Macbeths were grieving parents who recently lost a child and were basically two good people who did a very bad thing.

Before I clicked the link, I was expecting a modern day setting. It's interesting that he chose to set the story in the original time period. Not a fan of diversity casting, but the leads are top-notch actors, so I'm intrigued.

Did you see Denzel in Much Ado About Nothing? I thought he and the entire case was great.

Just be glad they went with Denzel and not Queen Latifah.

This dropped Friday on Apple+. As predicted, it was fantastic. I regret not watching it on the big screen because it was such a beautifully shot movie. Did anybody else watch it yet?

I thought they did a good job overall, although I'd say it wasn't my favorite cast for this type of dialogue.

What really differentiated their roles for me was their inflection in certain lines, which was a good choice by either them or Coen. It really brought a modern tone to some of the more banal scenes.

IMO Coen really nailed it with the witch(es). That broad was creepy AF, and the special effects surrounding her were on point.

Very well done. The way the movie was shot it felt like both a play and a movie. The scenes were not overly complicated like a big budget movie but still beautifully done.

The witch/witches were the highlight.
Strongly recommend watching it in closed captioning.
