A Few Good Men Observation That Doesn't Make Sense

In most capitol cases the defense rarely lets the defendant testify.
My observation is why would the defense put Downey who is an ignorant country boy that was obviously going to get caught in his words instead of Dawson? Dawson would have been a much better witness.

A few good men is a terrible representation of court procedures. By contrast, my cousin vinny is used as a teaching tool in law schools LOL

If I'm not mistaken, military court is not the same as civilian court. Different rules and proceedings. Code of military justice prevails

I vaguely recall that they wanted one of them to testify as to the order given.
I do not think it is explained but the only thing I can come up with is Downey would be sympathetic and relatable, while Dawson is a fricking a-hole.

She was Downey's lawyer thanks to Aunt Jenny. I'm sure that was her call. She was the one prepping him on what to say before she lied her arse off by telling him he would be able to return to his unit.

Yep, I've seen multiple "lawyer reaction" channels review the movie and say this has textbook cross-defense and should be taught in law school.

Love this movie. We had a "hazing" in the trial group for a very large law firm, and all new laterals had to do a skit at the annual meeting. I parodied the ending scene with Cruise/Nicholson. Always watch this when it's on.
