Not a bad list. Strange to see Django clean up though, that's a lot of wins.

Not really. This board loves Tarantino.

What a bunch of BS

Prometheus was the best sci fi movie released this year. People complain about how confusing it is, looper is really awful in that department. We were left with about 5k paradoxes

Ok maybe you were wrongly nominated for the Snob Award.

Hottest Actress of All Time Sweet 16

What was so good about this thread? I see several people mad that it lost.

IMO, that's the kind of bullshite thread you see on the OT. I'm glad it lost to an actual awesome, fun thread that was about (gasp!) movies.

What is the attachment to that thread about hot actresses?

Paint images was far better for me. Sweet 16 had a few meltdowns I believe.

Told you, but consider me a sci-fi snob. Prometheus had top notch production values, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace were excellent. Were there plot holes and a shoe horned ending? Was Charlize Theron's character completely unnecessary? Yes but Looper despite doing some phenomenal things suffered from infinite paradoxes and Bruce Willis really fricked up the tone of the movie with his Schwarzeneggeresque double machine gun rampage.

Yeah. That was a head scratcher to me. He's been broken out for a while, now.

There's a lot of wtf? winners in the movie category, but we pretty much nailed it in television. I agree that the hot actress tournament was one of the worst ideas ever and belongs on the OT. I don't remember who the winner was, but it was underwhelming.

It was epic to the tune of people melting down, getting so pissed at each other. I legit thought Lacour might show up to bomb my house. Blue Boy posted porn in a kamikaze attempt and it stayed up for 10 hours and he never got in trouble for it

It was really pretty damn epic. Did it have to do with movies? Not really; but it was better than a shite show terrible OT thread, the arguments were at least (generally) well thought out and discussed

I wouldn't consider you even a sci-fi snob if you regard Prometheus that way. No worries.

It was a terrible year for sci-fi overall, and John Carter > Prometheus

1999, 2001, 2004, 1995 off the top of my head

Nothing ridiculous about that. Promoetheus, given expectations, was utter garbage. Even if you take those expectations away, it's passable, mediocre.

Visuals, that's about all I got.

John Carter is better than most give it credit for. It's an old science fiction adventure, and it does that perfectly.

Most on this board seemed to be expecting an action movie and got a thriller. Visually it is stunning. The opening shot is great, but it goes beyond that. There are 2 great performances, tension and wonder. I didn't expect or want all the answers but I will agree that there were too many loose ends and I hate the alien scene at the end. Had to be a better way of doing that. Aside from some of the potholes involving the ooze and Theron's entire existence in the film along with guy pierce playing an old guy (just get a fricking old guy) I thought this movie was great. The things I mentioned keep it from being great but it certainly is much more than passable.

IMO there is nothing old school about it. In fact I would give that distinction to Prometheus. I realize the board loves this movie, but it is just awful. You won't find one performance in there even half as good as Michael Fassbender's in Prometheus.

I fricked up. What I wanted to say is that most every year is bad for sci-fi. The 70s and 80s despite inferior movie making technology were very good to the genre and now we get crap like John carter.

But hey, you gave me hunchback so I ain't mad

I implore you to give it a second view, look at the sets, the lighting, costumes etc...it looks and feels real which is something that 95% of Sci-Fi movies fail at

FTR, I loved looper through almost the entire movie, but Willis and the paradoxes created by the end (I overlooked the much earlier ones and the ones created by the entire concept) were too much. I almost fapped watching the transition from the first act to the second. Dystopian KC was great. I really loved looper. Willis destroyed it for me.

Not really. I was expecting the first real science fiction film since Sunshine. Something steeped in the history and future of the science fiction genre.

What I got was Ridley Scott's non-interpretation of interpreting the Alien universe and some really weak associations to Religions and Christ.

And don't get me started on the baby thing, that just about ticked me off. Almost walked out.

I have anger about it, simply because I really like Ridley Scott. It was more than passable, but that squarely rests on visuals and performances.

John Carter wasn't about performances, and Lynn Collins was quite good actually.

Did we watch the same movie? It's was Scott's non-opus to his opus. It had nothing to do with Science Fiction, that was why it was a severe disappointment to me.

It tried, and tried hard, but Scott lacked the conviction to really make his points.

Oh no I know what you meant. And that's just not true. It has been true recently, but we've had some brilliant films. See Children of Men, that will go down as a Top 20 all-time. Same for Prestige.
