How messed up does the legislative systems in Louisiana have to be to let off Ana Pou and the nurses? Then, to throw further insult to injury, permanently seal Grand Jury records, make civil law suits defense sign a NDA & lastly allow Ana Pou not only keep her medical license, but help pass laws basically giving health care professionals immunity from the law doing exactly what she did. This greedy old hag had the audacity to opt-in to receive a portion of the 25 million dollar fund set up for those injured at Memorial by the Parent company, Tenet (even after the city & state paid back her legal fees that were also paid for by a mass of donations). Someone needs to actually investigate this and bring her and those nurses to trial. Won’t be the current Mayor of New Orleans or Governor because God forbid they lose some of their rich friends in the medical field and communities…. What say you?

I tried the first episode and kept falling asleep then having to start over. After the fourth time I never went back to it.

Hot take.

FTR, the vast majority of New Orleanians know this case well and side with Pou.

I say you don’t have the slightest clue what you’re talking about.

If I'm stuck in Louisiana heat and humidity for numerous days with no certain rescue date and severely sick and my options are dying by a large shot of morphine or dehydrating to death, I hope someone does for me what Ana Pou allegedly did.

I haven't seen Five Days At Memorial, but I have read the book. You should as well. I think it more clearly illustrates the poor communication and organizational disfunction of Tenant, Memorial, and the Federal rescue effort.

Spoiler Alert:

Anna Pou wasn't alone in giving pain meds to patients. If you're going to charge her, there should have been at least two other MD prosecutions. Or, maybe a better idea would have been to not piss away ~24 - 36 hours on Monday afternoon, night and Tuesday of relatively clear access to get the most critical patients evacuated.

Same. It's not a huge leap to say what she did was more caring/noble than the other doctors/nurses who just left the patients there to suffer.

Civilization as we know it disintegrated within 24 hours. No matter what she did their would been an ethical controversy.

I wholeheartedly agree with this and think she was scapegoated or made an example a bit for other incidents outside of her hospital by the administration at that time.

That said, it does warrant an interesting conversation around the Hippocratic oath and you can't have that conversation without talking about Kevorkian as well. Different circumstances but...........?

Well Katrina was more than a decade ago so…

And also if you noticed, the two doctors that allegedly spoke to investigators about Pou euthanizing patients left the hospital before the alleged euthanasias actually occurred.

Oh please! The so-called working class would have abandoned those patients within the first day of post-Katrina hardships.

“Rich and wealthy” he says! How 1919 Bolshevik of you!
