It seems I am far from alone. A group of producers have funded an effort to "Remake The Last Jedi," to the tune of nearly $30 million. When Rian Johnson, the director of "The Last Jedi," heard the news, he responded with no less than 11 iterations of the word "please," pleading that this would "actually happen."

I hope they're successful. It wouldn't be that hard to turn it into a truly great movie.

Onion?

$30 mil?

Nacho Libre cost 30 mil and that was a decade ago.

The last Star Wars movie to have that budget came out in 1984.

They don't have to film a whole new movie. They just need to basically do reshoots to add no more than 20 minutes worth of new film and then recut and order some of the existing footage. $30 million might actually be about what is needed. They likely don't need to add many scenes that would require massive special effects.

Honestly, you just need to bring 4 actors back and then carefully edit the rest: Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, and Andy Serkis. Write out Rose and have Kylo/Rey be 80% of the story.

There’s no way those red crystal mines were originally there for a ridiculous 10 second scene. I’m sure that was in JJ’s original draft on where Rey loses to Kylo Ren.

They're going to need more than 20 minutes.

So they completely cut out Kelly Tran...which people want...have to CGI somebody in there...you can't delete the entire side-story with her - that's a huge worthless portion of the film.

Cut Leia flying.

Cut Purple head leader.

Cut Luke drinking spunk from a Walrus.

Somehow save Admiral Ackbar.

And redo Yoda so he doesn't look like Shrek. That's gonna cost CGI.

Basically everything terrible about the movie is going to cost a lot of CGI bucks.

It's already better than Rian's

The movie would just be bad instead of horrible if all they did was cut out all the cheesey arse comedic relief moments. I mean they really TRIED to make a terrible movie.

Honestly all of your changes can be simple. Sideline the Resistance, carefully edit it, and then in the reshoot have the plot be about a parallel training between Rey and Kylo. It should be 80% of the movie. In the destruction of the fleet, just have Luke/Snoke destroy the imperial ship with their force powers and keep the First Order’s forces from there.

I made the mistake of going to Rain Johnson's twitter page and there is a sickening number of white knights coming to his defense.

Basically, Rian Johnson is the Hillary Clinton of Hollywood.

I honestly think Mark would be willing to come back and do re-shoots for free. For the rest, I think Serkis would likely costs the most. I have a creeping suspicion that any actor/actress/production member that was part of TLJ, who also genuinely loved SW and what it used to be, all wish the movie had went differently. Of course, no one outside Hamill would ever speak their mind.

I really liked RJ until TLJ. I now have a hard time even enjoying Brick or Looper without my bias towards his shite-ridden bed that is TLJ. If you watch the scenes that were more practical(Throne Room battle, Rey's training, Luke/Ren battle on the ground) they were beautifully shot, with the Throne room battle maybe being the best looking scene in all of SW for me. For the more CGI-heavy scenes, they were terrible in parts(Mary Poppins, the way the AT-AT attack on resistance base at the end was presented, and subjectively Yoda) but great for others. Seems like the shitty writing and resulting plot structure resulted, more times than not, in some scenes having piss poor cinematography/CGI. These CGI issues are a financial nightmare in terms of production. The movie could literally be remade, with new scenes being filmed as practical as possible , cutting out as much shitty CGI and resulting practical areas associated with them, and putting it all back together.

It's a real shame for everyone, those involved that feel like Mark feels, as well as basically all of the fans. It's even more of a shame that Disney's re-imagining of SW had to coincide with the periodical occurrence of social issues becoming front and center in America. Social issues and change are naturally occurring and reasonable processes, but it sucks arse when it becomes a huge cornerstone for the media like has been happening for roughly the last 3 years or so. And of course, one of the first areas in culture that will be affected involves social commentary negatively overreaching into cinema. Just my opinion!

Hire Frank Oz for a day an bring the doll...much cheaper than paying a bunch of CGI guys for a week.

Forget the other CGI, just hire Douglass Trumball and go old school with effects. Remmeber the black canvas of space in old green screen tech is very realistic looking and easy.

If a crew of old school filmmakers got together for a month and reshot half the movie almost as a hobby, they could make that $30 million go along way.

Actors salaries are the only real expense hear. As another said, Hamill would probably do it for free. Plus no Fisher salary and kill her character off and then just have some intense Rey/Ren stuff and have don't CGI Snoke., just get Stan Winston...

This. And for the record, TLJ was a decent movie and enjoyable watch. Which is also reflected in its reviews which were in the 75-90+% range.

LOL those are the professional critic scores aka people who have to praise social justice or else lose their jobs.

The audience scores were the complete opposite.

It was a shite movie. A non-fan set out to deliberately destroy the franchise and trash people’s childhoods out of spite. That makes him a crappy human. I don’t care for Twilight or Hunger Games, but I also wouldn’t take a job directing them just to undercut the franchises so I could laugh about it with my snotty hipster buddies; I’d do the decent thing and just pass.
