In the off chance some of you want to watch the nominees, here is a checklist that includes the streaming service if it is available. Not sure if this will be visible, so the link is below. This is updated regularly as more movies release to stream.
Checklist (warning the site is a mess of ads)

I've seen 6 of the movies that received at least one nomination for something. Of the ones I've seen, Dune Part 2 was the best, Conclave could have been the best but the ending ruined it, and Emilia Perez was hands down the worst. This should tell you something about this year's crop of films. In order of best to worst:
Dune Part 2
Conclave
Gladiator Ii
A Different Man
A Real Pain
Emilia Perez

I haven’t heard of over half of the best picture films.
When you look at the 80s, 90s, and 00s it’s all movies that were popular and loved

We've started our best picture watching. We just watched these two yesterday.
Anora was wild and turned out to have some really funny moments in it.
Emilia Pérez was an interesting story but apparently the main person is a racist and fricked their odds at winning anything?

Netflix has cut ties with the actor, Gascon, and some are calling for the nomination to be rescinded.
Unlikely, but Netflix is no longer paying for his Oscar itinerary, and has scrubbed a planned format dubbed 'The Fab 5', where each nominee appears and talks about how amazing the other actors are. That's not happening now.

Anora wasnt bad. A grittier, dark humor version of Pretty Woman. It wants to be a chick flic but has too much guy humor. Worth watching but definitely not an Oscar type film. Yet, it seems to be the best of the nominated films in a really week year.

What about the intensity, vulgarity, and explicit nudity made you think it wanted to be a chick flick?

Conclave was awful. The big twist-a hermaphrodite was elected as pope....I threw my shoe at the tv.

The fact it starts with a plot of poor girl swept up by rich guy similar to Pretty Woman. It isn't a chick flic (obviously). As I said, it has a lot of dark humor and goes off the rails into the realm of what you described. It was a good movie.

The Brutalist is arguably the better film which is why it’s the current frontrunner. I was more entertained by Anora, though. If you want a more traditional Oscar type, it will be a $20 rental starting Feb 18.

Figured I would recycle this thread for the ceremony tonight. I’ll update OP during the awards.

Weakest batch of movies in forever to me
Didn’t get to all of them and don’t feel like I’m missing much anyway
Will watch the ceremonies though

Dog Man would be eligible for next year’s ceremony.
