Damn. After their album with Dangermouse (Attack and Release), I was hoping they'd go back to minimalism. But I'll reserve judgment. I think A&R is by far their weakest album.
Thickfreakness is a stone cold classic though.

Chulaha is their best IMO. Even though it's an ep so it's not really fair. But everyone of those songs kill. Never really heard A & R get much hate until this thread, I love that album.

Agree about A & R, although it's a good album to slip in the mix for a party.

I go back and forth between this and RF

I think A&R is the album for non-Black Keys fans. It's not that I dislike bands trying to mess with their sound, but it's sort of like Dangermouse missed the point. all he did was smooth the edges and add a bunch of studio tricks. He filled in the sound, but he made it more sterile. Really, a big disappointment. It's also their most commercially successful album.
Yeah, Rubber Factory and Chulhoma are both pretty awesome as well. Hell, I love Magic Potion, too, even if it is a slight level below. The Black Keys, for lack of a better term, have the dirtiest sound of any band on the planet. I think Thickfreakness is their best album, but RF has 10 AM Automatic and Girl Is On My Mind, my two favorite Keys songs.
Great live band, too.

The Legnths is my favorite song. Not as raw as most of their stuff but it makes me think of a certain girl and it just hits home.

I really hated last year, Animal collective and Grizzly Bear in particular.
I'm guessing you probably didn't like Dirty Projectors either.
Also, other great albums I really liked so far this year include Beach House, The Tallest Man on Earth, Liars, and Owen Pallett. Other good stuff coming up like Blitzen Trapper, LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene, Sun Kil Moon, M.I.A., Band of Horses... lots of great shite this year!

Didn't know they were releasing too. Just wow, lots of great bands putting stuff out there. Good to see

Blitzen Trapper, LCD Soundsystem, Band of Horses..

Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire, and Panda Bear are all supposed to have releases this summer as well.

Damn my head is spinning now. Need I say that's maybe too much awesome for one year?

Is the Arcade Fire a great band? Or the greatest band?

I'm actually looking forward towards the new Wolf Parade and Panda Bear more than Arcade Fire. Arcade Fire is pretty great though.

I love Wolf Parade as well, but I'll be honest... its al about the Hold Steady album for me. I cannot wait.

I could never get into the Hold Steady listening to a song of theirs here and there. But about a month ago, I saw Boys and Girls in America at FYE for $5, so I give it a chance and it finally clicked. Really enjoying it now and I plan to pick up their new one next Tuesday.

Over the last seven years, you can't debate the subject without mentioning them, that's for sure.

Same for me.

Love Craig Finn's vocals and delivery. It's almost a spoken not sung mix of Springsteen meets Meatloaf meets Bob Mould delivery.

I think his vocals was what originally turned me off to the band, but I've gotten used to them now. He is a really good lyricist.
One thing that worries me about their new record is the keyboardist leaving the band, because the keyboards were one of my favorite things about Boys and Girls in America.
