I really liked chappelle and loved his show, but now all he talks about is Black/White, etc...it just sucks

He has always been a make up story comedian...like I was driving throught the ghetto in a limousine and the driver stopped and jumped out of the car or there was a talking baby or I was eating at a restaurant in Mississippi...no you weren't. I know alot of comedians are like that, but it just irks me every time when they do it

So any joke that is fictitious isn't funny to you? Only stuff that actually happens IRL makes you laugh?

Comedians are storytellers, not truthtellers. I have no problem with making something up if it works as a bit.

Actually, Chappelle's were so obviously fake, he made fun of it. Like when he rolls down the window of the limo, explaining that it was a real old limo.

I still like that act, but like i said it just kills some of the joy for me

I heard a crippled comedian at the lost love lounge in the marigny about a year ago say

"I take ambien every night before bed, they said it makes you sleep walk"

now obviously that's not true, but that doesn't bother me and the joke was hilarious

now when you make up a convoluted series of "real life" events so you can tell the audience a clever remark you "made" or make an observation...well that's just shitty comedy.

You must've missed Steven Wright and Hedburg on the first page.

Jerry Clower "KNOCK HIM OUT JOHN!"

And he's not my style, but you have to give props to Jeff Foxworthy.

Carlin is the most over rated thing in the world.

Any love for David Cross? There aren't really a lot of other guys that sound like him, his style is very unique. I'll second Patton Oswalt, Chapelle, and Galifinakis. Also, while I do think Katt is funny, I don't think he should be on an all time list.

Mitch Hedburg is a top five for me.

I never realized the brilliance of Carlin until I listened to his earlier specials. The guy was brilliant.

I laughed my arse off at Dave Chapelle's last stand up special.

Saw Doug Stanhope in Houston a couple years ago. That guy is funny is a sick kind of way (like Bill Hicks).

My lone criteria for such a list would be "who had me laughing so hard I cried"

At their best (in no particular order):
Pryor
Robin Williams (his early stuff when he was on coke was killer)
Sam Kinnison
Dice
Eddie Murphy
Rodney Dangerfield
Larry The Cable Guy (although he needs to stop relying on his catch-phrases so much)
Chris Rock
Joan Rivers
Dave Chappelle

I know a lot of people picked Carlin, and he was indeed great, but to me he was more clever-funny than piss-my-pants-funny

Honorable mention:
Buddy Hackett
Carlin
Bob Saget
The Cos
Martin Lawrence
Rodney Carrington
