Whitfield caused the mad dash home which started the long line of mishaps for Spencer and Alex.
Yeah, that's the only thing i could see. i mean none of Whitfield's goons even touched Alex. But, she would not have been trying to get to Montana if Spencer didn't have to rush home to defend the ranch.
Her death didn't really make much sense. And was easily avoidable. Stay with the rich couple for a few days and continue the train ride. she gets there late but, at least she gets there alive. The frostbite thing was weird. she didn't have frost bit when she took the lady's gloves and started the fire but, somehow got frost bit with the gloves and the fire?
It sucks that Cara never gets to meet Alex. She would have been a much better addition to the ranch than Jack's wife.
So, the baby is John II which would be Costner's John's grandfather.
At least we did get to see some Spencer bad assery. Shoots the guy through the car. Shoots 3 guys with one shot of the big gun. Steps into the house and takes out a room full of Whitfield's men. Zane " Damn, spencer you didn't even let me get off a shot".
These event happened in 1924 according to Alex's tombstone. So, we get to see and Spencer in his 40s in 1944 and then an elderly Spencer in 1969. Which if the math is correct, John III (Costner) would be somewhere around 20 or so in 1969.
Hopefully we see another series with adult John III during the time he meets Lloyd and then Rip. I like the guy who played John III in the flashbacks.
TS seems to set the series around war times or shortly afterward. 1923 would have been roughly 5 years post WWI, 1944 would be during WWII. 1969 would be in the middle of the Vietnam war. Maybe we get an early 90s Gulf War series?
Interesting to see how Rainwater ends up in Montana when she was last headed West from Okie.
Also, who is still alive to know about the "train station" Whitfield, Banner and the others who knew about it are dead now.

She is a pregnant woman. She in theory makes the war HARDER for the Duttons. Just wait

Something else that was TERRIBLE writing
TS tries to pretend to be in the land of reality. In reality one man doesn’t make much different in a “war” with 100s of people.
That’s why when Whitfield said “what can one man do”, Banner had the logical response of “he can train men, he can teach them tactics”
Good TS, logical
However, we don’t have time for logical since TS waste the entire series on a journey. We don’t have time for Spencer to spend multiple episodes on the ranch teaching the cowboys how to fight. , so in fact, Spencer simply is John Wick Reacher and just kills the Whitfield army by showing up

yeah, even at nearly 2 hrs the ending seemed rushed.
I really wanted a Spencer vs Banner showdown before he got to Whitfield.
Then the Whitfield thing. Beats the guard at the door, busts in bang! You killed my wife. wtf are you talking about bang! her name was Alex, say her name! Alex..Bang bullet to the dome, set the house on fire, let's go home.

Whitfield’s death was a big letdown, he definitely didn’t deserve a headshot.
Should’ve been tied up, shot in the nuts, shot up the arse, shot in each leg etc. then set the house on fire with him still alive and him in it.

Maybe let the hooker get a little payback. Lock him in the stock thing, beat him for a few hours then set the house on fire with him still strapped down?

Remind me about the deal with Banner’s army. What were Banner’s goons getting out of attacking the ranch and killing all the Duttons? I’d say 25+ risked their lives and died in the last episode. Was it worth it?

wife and i stopped watching when they killed the girl they should have just let her die on the capsized boat in the middle of the ocean 10 episodes ago.
would have been more humane.

I am totally lost now on how the Dutton’s get the name train station in Yellowstone now since Whitfield never really gave that explanation to anybody else other than Banner and it was never used or explained since. Maybe they just find out by chance about that piece of Wyoming and name it train station because of the gun fight that happened there. Who knows? Thanks TS.
Jack’s wife slash widow. I guess she lost the baby during the rabies shots fiasco? Was that ever made clear?
There was so much more TS could have done with this series than how we wrote this. The whole Alex story leaving England was a trainwreck. I thought the meeting between her and Spencer would salvage it somewhat but her dying put a bow on that disaster. The whole Rainwater thing was a complete distraction.

The last episode was garbage. What did Indian girl storyline have to do with anything?
"They are going to write it in books what we did to you". Then just a head shot.
Alex getting frostbite. Why didn't she put on the other woman's clothes? Get the guys coat off of him outside? Why didn't she build a fire earlier? There is wood around everywhere.
The car just happened to be next to the train..........and Spencer sees her. LOLOLOLOL

Allowed Sheridan to proselytize about the Indian Schools while denigrating Catholics. And wedge a female US Marshal into the show.
Otherwise? Nothing.

Anyone else concerned about the scene where they find Jack?
The look on the cowboy’s face and how he said “we need the wagon” makes me worry that TS left himself an out, which would be ridiculous.
Guy just didn’t act like he found the boss’s son dead.

Well, his wife is going back to Boston because her husband is dead, so...

This stupid fricking show.
Not having Alex and Spencer in Montana together for a season is foolish

Agree 100%. It would have been great to have them both at the Yellowstone and helping with dealing with everything that happened. The fact that we didn't get the Spencer/Banner rivalry was a letdown. And not having Cara and Alex bond was just sad.

No out. There were two graves at the end.

I'm with you. TS does a really good job of starting a series but can't keep it flowing the longer the series continues. He drops plot stories and never follows up on the or changes details as if he forgot he put it in the show.
The Alex story is particularly bad. Her journey took to long. It was nothing but one torture after another until TS fricks with her and the viewers about being saved by the British couple only to be stranded in a blizzard to freeze to death. They were at a General Store where they could have hunkered down, purchased a ton of supplies or listened tot he clerk and got on the damn train. Then the whole frostbite was handled so poorly. Her and hands and feet were good enough the go outside and get a lighter that she was able to use and create fire which should have helps and then she was good enough to dash into Spencer's arms when should should have been virtually incapacitated. What a mess

Also, bitching out and letting yourself die instead of nutting up and living without feet was a complete bitch move and completely out of character for Alex
Probably my biggest issue. They tried to make it seem like it was her being noble but really it was just her being selfish. Feed the baby then get the surgery. But nope, couldn't live without feet for her newborn or husband.
