That show shouldn't be for anyone. Its a piece of dogshit. But I guess I'm in the minority on this board on that one.

Love it or hate it, you have to give credit to the guy who plays Sheldon Coopers.

I hate the show (I really did give it a shot), but I'm done arguing that point. It's almost as pointless as arguing over religion. It's THAT contentious.

<------ Geek
11. I couldn't care less about a laugh track. Not even really noticeable to me.
10. Belong in the kitchen IMO, so I don't mind the treatment of women.
9.
quote:

Nary a scene goes by without a shout-out to some nerd culture tidbit, but none of it actually means anything. It's just cheap.

What exactly is it supposed to mean? Its a damn 22 minute long comedy episode. Geez...
8. This one does irk me.
7. Then watch the other "geek shows" if you don't like TBBT
6. The author of this article seems to have some grudge against Lorre. (and all his Lorre trademarks)
5. I would like more Raj in my episodes. But seriously who is going to get more episode time than Sheldon.
4. BAZINGA! (I love this phrase)
3.
quote:

they're never treated with anything near the level of attention their male counterparts get.
The show is not about the female characters, its about the male group scientists.
2. Now they just seem to be reaching for something to complain about. The theme song, really? Because they didn't pick a nerdy enough band to play the song they don't like the show.

1. Saying that someone who has a high paying research job, enjoys playing Halo (or WoW), and reading comic books isn't a geek seems absurd to me. Just because they aren't your type of geek does not mean you can rule them out all together.

Articles like this frustrate me. Just don't watch the show if you don't enjoy it. I watch TBBT not to research geeks or learn about their culture, I watch because I enjoy the light humor and Penny is hot.

I agree with most of the points from the article, particularly this one:

quote:

Some examples include British sitcom The IT Crowd, which follows a pair of tech support blokes and is available streaming on Netflix, and Community, which treats its cultural references with respect while still making them funny.

I don't know any "geeks" who actually watch the Big Bang Theory. It seems like an LCD show IMHO

I find it funny they cite The IT Crowd as a good geek show (it really is a good show though) when it has a laugh track, and they blast The BIg Bang Theory for having one too.

Futurama is my favorite though, they do a lot of really clever nerd jokes that you sometimes don't even catch. I know of some only because I watched the dvd commentary

I actually laugh during the IT crowd so I've never noticed it.

Ok I'm done.

Yep. I think that it's a show for people who want to appear smarter than what they are.

I already know about their culture from watching NUMB3RS. The smartest geeks work at a university, have family members or friends with exciting jobs and help save people's lives weekly. They may sleep in their cars but everybody respects them even the suave black guy.

I think that article was reaching. They are correct that the laugh track sucks, Sheldon is over used and there have been too many guest appearances. But other than that they seemed to be reaching. To me the main problem with the show is they ran out of ideas and changed it. I've been watching the reruns on TBS lately and they are just so much better than the current episodes.

Usually with sitcoms the characters don't become caricatures of themselves until the latter seasons. The problem with this show for me is that these characters started off as over-the-top caricatures and the jokes are repetitive.

I am a geek, and I fricking love Big bang Theory.

I don't care for the IT crowd at all.

I really don't think CBS is after the geek demographic with this show.

Its kind of ironic how the show potrays the lives of highly intelligent but nerdy scientists yet the majority of the jokes are low brow and crude.

People who say they like the show because they are intelligent are just fooling themselves.

The dude who wrote that sounds butthurt.

I've only watched the first season as of now though. So maybe it gets worse later on.

I'll give you that the jokes on BBT aren't clever or thinkers, but I don't think it's remotely low brow or crude other than maybe the jokes about India. It's probably about as clean and family friendly as network sitcoms get these days. The jokes are

*Spoilers for just about every episode*

Sheldon is weird, Raj is afraid of girls, Wallowitz is irrationally confident, and Leonard's a loser.
