Is the most Cinematic almost arthouse Bond film.
It's a real film, film.
Ditching flash in favour of character development, this stylish and energetic entry is one of the best films in the series.
But man is it flat. Just something off with this film that has far better direction and style than most in the series.

It's such a unique Bond film with a non-actor as a one-timer but it kind of works. This film is ranked higher than one might expect on "expert" best Bond lists.
Maybe it's just nostalgia for a better time, but I like it well enough to put it just above the middle on my Bond list.

Lazenby is the worst Bond ever by a mile but the film is basically in a category of its own as far as Bond films go.
I like it.
I like it.

If Connery had played Bond instead of Lazenby, movie would be considered the goat bond movie

One of my favorite Bond movies. I wish Lazenby had done at least a couple more.

I could see this.
The film is beautiful.
Just, strangely different and off...I don't think its all on Lazenby's shoulders. There's nothing he does terribly wrong...he looks the part, screen test hero but the movie is like its trying too hard to trick us that its not Connery.
Anyways, always avoided this film. Surprised by how well made it was...and how interesting it looks. They really went to great expense to have audiences forget Connery wasn't there.

I still don’t get the love for the James Bond movies.

Because of what initially happened in Bond’s transition from literary character to movie franchise, this movie stands out because it’s the closest adaptation on-screen to Fleming’s Bond.
Thunderball was supposed to be the first Bond movie, but there were level issues between the producers and the writer, Kevin McClory, regarding the rights to Bond and money. The former pivotted to Dr. No.
By the time OHMSS came out in 1969, Bond was a worldwide phenomenon. Between 1961 and 1969, the world got Dr. No, From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice. Could you imagine getting five Bond movies in eight years today?
OHMSS had to make a change from Conner. It focused more on the character, instead of the actor and the gadgets that were introduced primarily for the spectacle of film.

To me it is one of the best bond films made. I loved it. Whish they would have kept the new bond around.

Lazenby struggles at times because he was just a model that backed into being Bond….but it’s one of my favorite Bond movies. Maybe even Top 3. The score, the ending, the car….it’s all on point.
Not sure how that movie would’ve fared with Connery. He had kind of checked out with You Only Live Twice. If he had put in the same effort as he had with Goldfinger and Thunderball, it would’ve been the GOAT by far.

Being in the over 55 crowd, James Bond was huge. Men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him. Bond was so cool he was pissing ice cubes.
OHMSS is a good Bond film but Lazenby just didn't work for me. Sean Connery sold that role so damn hard that everyone suffers by comparison. Whoever said that if Connery had been the lead it would be among the best and I tend to agree.
Dianna Rigg stole the movie IMO. I wasn't a fan of Kojak playing Blowfeld. It didn't work

It is a very good Bond movie with a very pedestrian and uninspiring Bond.

I like all the old Bonds. Even the campy ones like Moonraker are classics to me. The late 70s/early 80s ones like Spy Who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only are my favs. Being born in 76 probably has a lot to do with it.

Worst bond but Riggs killed it. Great script.

Connery would've been injecting too much humor

It's great being part of a really good Bond conversation and so many thought provoking points made.
Lazenby - He wasn't an actor. He was standing in for the original who most believe remains the GOAT 60 years later. He played Bond low key, much like Fleming's character.
Savalas - He was OK, not great but not bad. It's just hard to see him as anything but Kojak.
(SPOILERS)
Rigg - One of the few Bond women with brains, beauty, and confidence. She was one of the few who stood up to him, and he respected her. She's the only one he married, and her demise was shocking and, yes, sad. My only beef with the ending is that Bond didn't get enraged and pursue the murderers. The next 15 minutes would have been really fun.
The film - It was visually spectacular and a perfect late 60s period piece. There are 25 official Bond films. It comes in between 7-10 for me. It's absolutely worth a watch if for no other reason than its uniqueness.

Shot on film, practical effects, hot women.
There are lots of reasons.

This whole thread shows you how they’ve really mishandled the Bond franchise over the last decade. We only get 2 films per decade and they’re meh at best.
