Good investment. He'll get a sponsorship or two out of this

I’m sure there are a lot of major companies who were real on the fence about Zion before.

Smh this is why ball players go broke so quick
I agree that the owners should cover things like this, but this isn't a guy on a minimum contract out of the G-league. This will be chump change for Zion. He's already set for life through endorsements and this kind act will benefit him greatly in the eyes of potential sponsors. It's a win-win.

If I had to guess, the pelicans will be handling the payments but allowed Zion the publicity

That’s a dumb guess.

Yep

Very kind of him regardless, but he’ll get a nice ROI from the good PR

Jesus Christ, Pelicans should have stayed silent rather than release this statement

So this is a long-winded version of "we're going to do nothing"

Yeah kinda dumb. Given her offseason PR issues, I'm surprised Gayle didn't buy that goodwill immediately.

Gayle should have made a one sentence statement.

"Thank you Zion for your amazing gesture, but we got this one."

Yea they should have said nothing. It is true that most kf these are being paid the arena owner(for example, staples workers are being paid by AEG. Not the lakers, clippers, kings, or sparks), but no reason to make a public statement about it

The money he is donating is pocket change leftover from his time at Duke.

He is paying the “salary”. $7.25 an hour ? Thanks bud.

Them frick ups ended up there for a reason. Don’t try to show off on tv by paying them their minimum wage.

How do you get that from that statement?

That’s definitely a “we are trying to do something but we don’t employ these people directly so we are working on it”.

People are always looking for the negative.
