One thing that jumps out to me when watching Zion is that he has that dog in him... He is a competitor, and he won't be content to be average in the NBA.

To me he has holes in his game as a perimeter shooter, but I could see him putting in the work to develop a reliable shot in the next five years.

The big unknown to me is his body and long term health. He looks like he could easily break 300 lb if he is not careful. He needs to be closer to 250-260 lb if he wants to stay healthy IMO.

If he keeps his body weight down I think he will be better than Griffin.

Actually I think the more appropriate comparison is Barkley.

I think the best comparison is Julius Randle, but I chose Blake Griffin for the purposes of this thread because Blake Griffin has had a much better career so far compared to Julius Randle.

Zion better athlete than Barkley ever dreamed of and I'm not being critical of Chuck by saying that

Zion is one of a kind. No one compares

Too high of bball IQ and raw athleticism. He a mix of about 3-4 all stars

Thus is most apt but rule changes limit what Zion can do now.

If Zion is only as impactful as Griffin he and his new team will be disappointed.

We know that sir Charles and thunder Dan only got to finals.

Zion just lost in round of 8.

Suppose Zion never wins an NBA ring. It could happen.
Right now he's working on a shoe deal. I hope loses 15 lbs.

Barkley was a pretty explosive athlete in his younger days but obviously not like Zion. That being said, I think that Zion is much closer to 6’5” Barkley than 6’10” Griffin.

ETA to correct Blake’s height. I underestimated.

Just edited to fix but it only adds to my point that Zion is not nearly as tall as Griffin. That could prove important if/when he loses his athleticism.

That’s what I feel comparing him to Chuck is more appropriate. Chuck evolved from a brute PF to more of a SF/PF hybrid at the end.

Let's be honest. He has to be a longtime all-star and lead his team to a championship or two to justify what we've seen in terms of hype this year

No he doesn't. The hype is over how incredible a college player he is and the fact that he is by far the biggest star in college BB. He is one of the best college players I've ever seen. He is easily worthy of the #1 and he'll be at the very least a very good pro.

Why are you comparing sophomore to freshman?

Also, the way he can move. He can play SF.

Zion is at best a six year NBA player due to his size he knees won’t last

Now THIS is a dumb take.

It's not the 1980's anymore, big guys can run and jump into their mid 30's without ruining themselves. Training and sports medicine has made it more than possible

Blake developed a great shot. I don't think Zion will but time will tell

It’ll be close. I think both players are really good, but wouldn’t consider either one a super star or whatever.

But I’ll go with Griffin for now. Mainly due to his playmaking and passing ability.
