Youth Football Coaches- Which offense is best

Next year I'm thinking about installing a 4 receiver Spread offense for my 10 year olds. Most coaches would crap their pants when we trot out there and spread out their defense. The Renegade Spread is what I want to use. We run the Double Wing this year per our Head Coach and it sucks to try to get 9 year old kids to pull down the line and make blocks.

What kind of 10 yr old QB can run a spread? He better have a strong arm.

hand the ball off to the biggest kid on the team - that's the best offense

Not gonna work.
You cant expect 10 year olds to be able to pass the ball regularly, nor can you expect them to run read options or just options in general.

Sounds great only if you have 10 year old that can throw the ball.

If you have a crafty QB and some decent backfield kids the Notre Dame is unstopable at that age.

hand it off to the fastest player on the team. or the biggest kid if none of your players are that fast. throw it very occasionally. run trick plays a few times a game.

Spread formation Wildcat is 100% the best. Spread them out to open up lanes and have your fastest kid run right and left for the most part. We ran out of Pistol formation and used our best eligible blocker behind the QB. So they couldn't tell which side we were running to with 2 wide on each side.

i won a superbowl doing that back in 98'

West Coast offense. A lot of hitches! Short passes

this.
an easy touchdown is running a reverse with the fastest kid on the team.

We'll line up in a spread, but mostly run out of it. We'll have a minimal amount of passing plays. My son can run the read option, but I don't want him playing QB.

I am liking the Wildcat though

Damn I know there are athletes in Grayson but damn. Are you playing in the Gwinnett Rec League?
Posted on 10/5/09 at 6:56 pm to mmjones87
Yeah I coach in the GFL (Gwinnett Football League)
I'm at Grayson this year, but going back to South Gwinnett next year. I love the version of the Spread that the high school runs.

If the 10-year-olds have the fundamentals down you could line them up single file from the line of scrimmage back to your endzone and it wouldn't matter. Call it the 11-man I.
Of course it would be an illegal formation, but you get the point. For 10 year olds the fundamentals are *everything*, every play they could just go out for a pass like in the backyard and they'd still be championship caliber.

dude are you serious?
first of all why would I spread my defense out to cover 4 WRs? You don't have 4 WRs that can catch and I doubt you have a QB that can get the ball to 4 WRs. So you know what I am going to do? I am going to put 5 men on the line with 4 LBs and 2 CBs on the slots, leave the outside receivers uncovered and whip your OL and your QB's arse all game long
2nd of all at 10 the only thing you should be concerned with is blocking and tackling. Put in the split back veer, hammer them with the belly dive, keep them off balance with the QB keep on the edge and run some option pitch and teach your kids to play tackle football and not that flag football BS

Best Offense for a 10 yr old team is the I or Power I. Just have some basic zone and counters with very few throws.

I was just researching the Split Veer and this is something that also interests me.

split back veer is simple to teach, fundamentally sound and it is fun for everyone to play
