PG - Payton
SG - Jordan (9x all defensive team, DPoY, 2.3 steals/g)
SF - Pippen
PF- Duncan (15x all defensive team)
C - Olajuwon (2x DPoY, 9x all defensive team, 3.1 blocks/g, 1.7 steals/g? )

I would think the player that the Def POY award is named after would be on the list. Just my 2 cents.

Hard to argue with that list.

I’d prob go Kawhi over Pippen. If Lawhi played in the ISO heavy 90s, he’d average 4 steals per game.

That is a solid list though.

You pretty much nailed it, maybe Big Ben at center?

Solid list.

Sidney Moncrief and Alvin Robertson deserve mentions at Guard, but they are second tier behind Payton/Jordan.

Rodman probably should be on the list, but I can’t place 3 Bulls. Maybe remove Pippen and put Kawhi, but I’ve seen Pippen ranked by some as the best defender in NBA history.

I think Bill Russell and Dennis Rodman should be on that list, but it’s not bad.

If we’re talking about all eras even before the 80’s

C Mikan They changed the lane and made rules because of him
F Russell They didn’t register blocks when he played and I’m making him a 4
F Jordan because I want him to play 3 on this team
G Payton
G Frazier they didn’t record steals until his 8th year I think so who knows how many he really had

Bench
Olajuwon
Bobby Jones when they call you the Secretary of Defense
Jabbar the man never gets the credit he deserves
Robertson was a Quad Double Guy
Monctief
Rodman he made the all star game in Houston off Defense and wasn’t even a starter. Plus he could guard from 6’4 to 6’11
Shaq was a blocked shot and rebounding machine until he got lazy

How can you not have the inventor of the chase-down block in this list?

I thought about Rodman but his block and steal numbers were kind of weak.

I agree with your opinion that Kawhi over Pippen. It’s a very tough list.

PG--Payton
SG--Kawhi
SF--Pippen
PF--Russell
C--Olajuwon

I'm playing with positions a little, but Kawhi can easily guard the 2, and Russell was more 4 sized in the modern game.
